In North America, I mean?

What ratio of judoka to bjjers do you see in your area?

Here, in my area, I see it at about 1:30. That's 1 judoka for every 25-30 bjjers.

What do you guys (judoka or bjjer) see?

Really Hoping to hear some ratios in your area.

Where is it that you are looking for them? Judoka are crafty and sometimes wear disguises.

In Europe you'll find five Judo clubs with completely full mats to every BJJ school with only about 10-20 adult students. Judo has never been huge in the USA due to wrestling being so predominant and culturally ingrained - even when Americans do Judo they still try to wrestle, haha.

Actually, the judo club in my area is probably as big as the two BJJ clubs combined.

Yeah, but in the 80's, in my area there were many, many judoka, even in the 90s...then it faded fast.

No. Just judo when I can but I do see a lot of bjj clubs and they're packed.

I dont live in the US but I read a lot about Judo clubs numbers diminishing and they are blaming mma and BJJ.

They are trying a last attempt at rebuilding the numbers and are hoping that BJJ popularity would end eventually.

I actually find it ironic. It is little bit like the story that the grass is greener on the other side of the fence.

I always thought that Judo was so developed and well run with full gym etc and BJJ was chaotic and empty mats etc...

Just discovered that Judo guys has the reverse impression of their art and keep writing on how popular is BJJ etc...

1:1 sounds pretty good. Would it still be the same ratio if counting only 17-30 year olds?

Why do you say they are blaming bjj?

Why do you say they are blaming bjj?

Because this is what they wrote on their blog/website.

Do I need to explain why a young male rather join a mma and/or BJJ club instead of a Judo club?

Is it because of the UFC? :icon_lol:

I just meant what made you think that, and if US/Canada Judo sites said that then that's good enuff.

Feels like it in my neck of the woods. It's like all the black belts are getting old/spotty with their attendance, and it's a revolving door of n00bs coming in and out of the dojo. I'm about ready to quit myself for lack of training partners. :( The only that's keeping me from just transferring to BJJ is the huge gap in tuition haha.

I agree. The lack of training partners is huge.

I dont live in the US or canada.

But the stats are like that in my town.

1972: 25 Judo clubs
1993: 8 clubs

National stats: 95 to 55 clubs (I don't have the dates but I would assume that it started in 1972).

Now back 10 years ago: 3 BJJ clubs in town that I knew off..nowdays I would say 12 clubs (I don't bother counting).

The reason why: heaps of affiliates and break away clubs as well.

Are the BJJ club as full as the Judo club? I don't think so.

good info lechien. Thanks.

Can you say what area of the world you are from?

I would suggest a beer fridge and more ne waza emphasis for the senior members.
