Is Jones past his prime?

Blown up middleweights ha some guys at middleweight would wreck many light heavyweights.

why? it's not like what i said was super inconceivable
you dont believe Jon can win 4 straight fights?
bet against him then LOL
the second he dares to fight an elite HW Ill be glad to. Jon himself has said countless times HWs are too big and he will only do it for certain matchups he feels comfortable with, yet sherdoggers will claim hes going to make the move any day now and run through Stipe/Francis/Overeem etc. Its funny.

he's been stating in his last interviews that moving up to HW is the next step for him

So much shit talked about Jones, he's one of the smartest fighters to have ever stepped inside the octagon.

Jon only performs as well as he needs to for whomever is in front of him, via Smith did the bare minimum and cruised through, via Gus (1) he dug deep and pulled out the stops and didn't quit despite the beating he took, kept on pushing through to the very end to secure the W.

Say whatever you like but roids doesn't do jack shit for fight IQ and he has displayed some of the very best ever against some serious competition, he dismantled DC and made him look slightly above average as opposed to world class.

Is he past his physical peak? hell sure he is but he has enough technique and smarts to stay champ for some time yet.

Aldo & GSP both said that being a long time defending champ takes a HUGE toll on the psyche... and s**t I'm starting to believe it for real when it comes to John! Haven't seen all of his recent matches... but when he was facing OSP... he was clearly OFF Yes... but his drive was far from being there... and the motivation wasn't there... and he still smoked Him! Both Aldo & GSP that you eventually go into fights in order to NOT LOSE instead of going out there & ripping the guy's Head Clean Off! Since it happened to Rush & Scarface... it's bound to happen to Bones... and it's probably happening now!

"couldn't finish" is the worst take ever lol
GSP had 8 straight decisions in 9 title fights
was he never dominating? was he "struggling to finish"? No
but you're still not at that point of appreciating the art form yet mate
you'll get there. i was like you once

watching GSP fights after he got neutered by Serra was like taking Tylenol PM. It literally put people to sleep.

Discuss. He has been at this for long and been in tons of five rounds fight but I don't think he has taken much damage, aside from gus 1 but it wasn't too much either.
He's pretty old in fight years I think and might be sort of out of his prime.
Inb4 roids and pulsing.
Hes became past his prime when usada was employed by the ufc. He just scrapes by nobodies these days.

Nah, hes just not able to juice as much or easily as before which is why he looks a lot worse these days.

Hes just lucky hes in a thread bare div.

yet he was pumping out consistent 800k+ PPVs
maybe back then people appreciated cerebral skill more
same way people call fighters like Usman, Colby, and Leon "boring" and "crotch sniffers"
meanwhile 10+ loss bums like Nate Diaz are making way more than all 3 combined
if MMA ever wants to be taken as a serious sport, the fans need to learn how to value high skilled performers over the WWE circus bs
Nadal has always been viewed as 'boring' and 'robotic'. Has that ever stopped him from getting the rightful praise and money he deserves? No.

Another delusional Jones fanboy.

The first fight with DC was extremely close until DC gassed and Jones' steroids kicked in and Jones simply outworked DC to a decision because he had an extra boost unlike DC. Not IQ.

In the second fight DC was up on all score cards and sent Jones mouthpiece flying out of his mouth but AGAIN Jones was on steroids and walked through shots that slept the likes of Stipe but Jones somehow magically ate them for 3 rounds and kept moving forward, maintaining the same work rate and landed a high kick.

So he outworks and high kick KOs DC when hes on steroids but now after being busted 3x by USADA Jones is having trouble finishing MW journeymen??

Doesnt add up. Steroids make a difference. Why else would Jones get caught with them 3x? Why would he take them if they dont help you?

There was nothing cerebral about laying on Hardy for 5 rounds being unable to even get a submission. That shit was pathetic and no intelligent fan appreciated that unless they were a Canadian fanboy.

I hespect GSP but even someone who hespects him can objectively agree he was boring AF after getting beat down by Serra.

is there anything more emasculating then taking away a mans ability get out from underneath you?
holding a man down and controlling him to your will
if they were naked and in prison, Hardy's anal sphincter would have find out a whole new meaning to his name
GSP makes sure to stay lubed up though, so it wont be too rough

Good post. His in-fight management/fight IQ is superior to anyone elses by some distance. Allied to his physique and array of attack, makes him an almost perfect fighting machine.

Call him GOAT and you could still argue he's underrated IMHO.

Pathetic.

'his steroids turned on'
holy shit you're a brainlet

DC-Jon 1 wasnt close. Jon clearly won
DC-Jon 2 was 1-1 going into the 3rd (and thats being generous)
Jon dispatched of him with the same weakness he stated he'd exploit years prior
DC even acknowledged he knew what "tendency" Jon was alluding to, and that he wouldn't let it happen
Earlier on in the fight, you see Jon attempt to mask his kicks (low, medium, then high) to try to catch DC when he leans in to defend a body kick
DC nearly avoids it and shakes his head.
But Jon continues to use DCs natural reactions. He continues to kick him low, medium, low, low, medium
DC instinctively reacted to the fatal kick by leaning as always, ultimately leading to his demise
The left highkick landed and Jon went in for the kill

but to your smooth brain.... all you saw was "the steroids turned on"
i pity you

he'll go up to heavyweight late this year
finish Stipe (who's chin is deleted from ngannou + DCx2)
he'll defend the belt 2 times before moving back down to LHW to fight Izzy
If Jones goes to heavyweight he gets got.

If Jones goes to heavyweight he gets got.
he rarely gets hit
he never gets hit clean
why do you think some slow ass HWs are finally going to do him in?
the in cage weight difference between LHW and HW isnt that much different
most of the best HWs way around the 240s
LHWs come in at around 225ish
