Or does he just "need more time?"

He's paid like a top 5 elite coach. Is he?

Is it time U of Michigan just fade away for a while and stop pretending, and let academics be "their thing?"

lol no. What a dumb thread topic

    Winning pct:
    Harbaugh - .741
    2008-2014--- .523

Michigan football hasn't seen this consistent level of winning since Lloyd Carr and has been in the national title conversation for that last 5 seasons. They've only had 3 10-win seasons in previous 12 years prior to Harbaugh. Harbaugh has 3 during his 5 year tenure. Michigan would be stupid to fire him.

Ok. Hard to believe they only win half their games under rich rod and then what's his face.

I would say it's a bit of a failed expirament at this point, and a loss tonight if it happens furthers that.

No better or worse than a shitload of other coaches.
College football is a zero sum game where basically everyone is throwing money at something only 3-4 teams have a chance at any given year.

I think the fact he's no better or worse than a bunch of other coaches is exactly the point. He's paid 7.5 million/year, third highest of all coaches. Not winning a title or even making the playoffs is bad enough. But priority #1 at Michigan is the Ohio Stage game. And that's been a dismal failure. I don't think anyone would say he's a bad coach. But I don't see how the results are worth the salary they're paying him.

I'm just surprised he hasn't gotten a superstar level QB with his resume.

I always laugh when the media talks about this. There’s only a handful of elite coaches and he’s right behind them. Michigan can do a lot worse than Harbaugh. They were garbage under Rich Rod and Hoke. I’ll take 9 to 10 wins every year in a loaded BIG 10

Here's the other thing with Harbaugh. He has that personality and attitude that works at first and comes off as excitement and passion....but look at his track record. He always wears out his welcome after 3-5 years. People can only put up with his schtick for so long then either he moves on or both sides know it's time to move on.
Unless he's able to win a conference title or at least give Ohio State a decent fight he's not worth the salary or the headache IMO.

Harbaugh could go 0-50 over the next 4 yrs and he'd still have my respect for what he did at Stanford and beating U$C in 2007.

No. Compare his results to Rich Rodriguez, he's been an elite college coach. College football though is tougher to win a title than any other sport. Undefeated teams(even in major conferences) have been denied you need to be perfect. Winning a title requires a lot more than A+B=c it's a generational thing and even the best schools win titles at the frequency of mediocre pro franchises(Michigan 1948 and 1997 is an example).

His results are pretty in line with what he showed at Stanford, it's just the Michigan fans have expectations Stanford fans would never have. All these trigger happy people in sports who want to fire elite coaches for not winning titles need to ask themselves if their is a superior available replacement.

He's 2-10 against teams that finished in the top 10 (and that doesn't include Wisconsin and Penn State from this year).
Even more damning is that he's 8-14 against teams that won at least 8 games. That's unacceptable at a program like Michigan. Him being better than Rich Rod and Hoke doesn't mean much.

What exactly did he do at Stanford though? Shaw has achieved far greater heights.

Harbaugh resurrected that dead program. Not that hard for Shaw to do when someone gets the ball rolling for you.

And yet Hairball couldn't do it with Andrew Luck and USC on a postseason ban.

Went 12-1 in his final year and won the Orange Bowl. Had there been a playoff they would have been part of it. I guess winning a weak Pac 12 is more impressive now.
