seriously??...i have bought gi's for 50 bucks and 75 bucks, and they are good (i have never bought an expensive gi tho)...my gi's are very strong and dont seem like they will rip at all (i have done judo with them too, which is even rougher on the gi)

so my question is, why would anyone buy a gi for 150 bucks, when you can get one for 75 thats basically the same thing?? If I was a black belt competing, maybe i would look into buying a nice gi, but just for practice and competition, why even get one??

its like people that buy nice wrestling shoes...are you going to be able to get that double you all of a sudden now, because you bought nice shoes, or are you going to wrestle exactly the same??

I personally love light weight gi's, so paying $100-150 is worth it in my spoiled opinion.

you get what you pay for, that's all i have to say... except for atama now

Sure why not? Gi's are so versatile, you can wear them in the winter AND summer.

I think so, I have a $150 Atama and an $80 GracieAcademy Gi, I Like them both, they're both light, though I have found that my Atama which is the PRICIER of the two is my FAVORITE. I'll probably get a Gameness Gi some time too... its nice to have a couple of different choices.

Funny thing about Attama this school near me, is selling them cheaper in Canadian dollars the the website is selling them in American dollars.

I am a judo player so obviously we wear different Gis then you would see in a BJJ competition but I have bought several higher end gis. When I am wearing my Gi every night (sometimes mornings) every night I like to have a nice one. I had a cheap singleweave that I bought off of Ebay (a warrior gi) and the first time I rolled with a big guy someone ended up ripping it when they did a Makikomi throw.

The other reason that I wear the higher end gis is that I when I get a good cut double weave gi it can be very difficult to grip in competition while still being legal... I have 4 Gil Gis, all double weaves, and when I compete in them it can be nearly impossible for my opponent to keep and over hand grip if my Gi is tied tight and I dont want them to have it(I.e. all the time).

Final words... If you are not going to roll in a gi every practice, or you dont use it very often then I would just go wtih a cheaper gear. Especially in JJ where you probably wont get thrown with a giant throw like I did that will risk it ripping. Obviously if you dont plan on putting a ton of miles on every gi that you buy like I do then spending upwards of 50 dollars would be a waste of money... I find also that if you just get a durable Gi top the pants may get destroyed over time but the Gi top will still be good and you can always buy more gi pants for very cheap. May I reccomend the Fuji BJJ gis? I have several Fuji Judogis and they are inexpensive but very durable and I would consider wearing them in Competition if my other Gis were not clean. Check out www.kodokansports.com I bellieve that they sell the new Fuji BJJ gis. If not, I am sure you could always find them elsewhere I just find that kodokan sports has treated me very well.

My favorite gi is my $35 Pro Force single weave, which is probably eight years old at this point. The jacket was ripped once, but I had it repaired and it's as good as new.

It's definitely not the nicest looking gi by any stretch, but it's extremely light weight.

The only other gi I have to compare it to now is the black Sirius gold weave, which is very nice, but much warmer. I'll also have a Gameness Pearl within a few days.

Lots of guys from Cung Lee's gym wear Pro-Force...now I know why...damn that's cheap.

I think it is worth it once you have been training for at least a year and realize you will be doing this for awhile. I had a cheap Kikskin gi for my first year of training and it was wearing down. Since I knew that I was hooked to the sport I thought it was a no brainer for me to spend around $100 for a nicer gi. Plus when you spend half your day on this forum you get the bug to buy more MMA stuff after reading a good review.
