According to the link below, an estimate of 1,200 people die a year over sneakers... and disproportionately, those deaths are over Jordan sneakers. Is it time for Michael, arguably the most famous man on the planet, one with tremendous pull, to speak out on the matter?

Over the course of Jordan’s professional career, there was no doubt that he was the greatest basketball player ever. But over the duration of his time as a professional athlete, one of the biggest knocks Jordan faced was his unwillingness to take a stand on important political and social issues such as the 1992 Los Angeles riots and the growing impoverishment of Chicago’s inner cities.

The author of the article goes on to say:

Jordan’s silence about the dangers that have become associated with his sneakers conveys—rightly or wrongly—that he places greater importance on his financial welfare than the safety of the communities that it’s damaging. An acknowledgement from His Airness could communicate the opposite. It would also provide him a platform to propose solutions for the risk of buying a pair of Air Jordans

I personally think it is irresponsible for Jordan to remain silent. Use your influence to make a change

I think it's time people are held accountable for what they do. That's where I'd go with that. By the way, it's 2 in the morning and I don't know if something this silly is real or maybe I'm just missing the sarcasm.

he doesn't give a shit

he'd probably gamble on how many people will die

That would hurt the bottom line, and we definitely can't have that.

LOL. Sneaker violence.

Ghetto gon' ghetto.

A demigod like Michael Jordan should never stoop so low as to even acknowledge these morons exist.

Air jordans were mass marketed and now he has his own brand. There has to be plenty of supply out there.

And they were not even that nice. I prefer, the Air Pennys, the Jason Kidds, and Allen Iversons. The Grant Hills were nice too.

Its real. I can't fathom why he hasn't said shit on the issue for decades. He has influence. Kids look up to him. Say something on the matter.

What do you think that would accomplish? Kids are still going to buy them and some of them will get beaten or killed over them. Even if Jordan himself drops the price to $20 a pair, then kids will get killed over LeBrons or Yeezys or whatever other shoes cost $100+.

Jordan isn't the problem. The shoes aren't the problem.

i think we all need to speak about black violence in america, and how its become unbearable to live in a society with ghetto blacks.

What you want him to do? Stop selling his shoes?

Not sure it will change much... Idiots will still be idiots n look for other reasons to kill n commit crime.

Back in his heydey Jordan was asked why he doesn't speak out in politics and Jordan famously replied "Republicans buy sneakers too".

So my guess is Jordan doesnt speak up because he doesn't want offend prospective buyers because after all...criminals and murderers buy sneakers too.

Maybe he does not feel qualified. What make a celebrity more qualified than people that study a lifetime? Those that do study a lifetime also realize they are not always right. The world is complicated.

I think it's high time Bay Area took accountability for the out of control lemonade theft epidemic in this country....
