Is it possible that Ben Henderson just isn't good enough to dominate other elite LWs?

It would seem so...pretty much dominated before he got to UFC (12-2 with 9 finishes) Had some great battles with cerrone and pettis. He gets to the UFC, beats Bocek/Miller/Guida...then struggles beating edgar twice arguably losing the second fight. Dominates Nate Diaz. Then struggles against Melendez and arguably lost, got steamrolled by Pettis and then gets another razor thin "win" tonight against Thomson. Thoughts? Is he simply talented enough to be near the top but not truly an elite LW?

Edit: poor choice of words I suppose...what I was really getting at is that he isn't good enough to dominate any other elite LW's...unless you consider Nate Diaz an elite LW. He didn't dominate edgar/melendez/pettis/thomson

Just because he arguably lost those fights doesn't make him all of a sudden not an elite LW. I just think his overall skills are a little overrated and I think he gets by on pushing the pace and most of the time being the bigger guy.

He's probably not the best LW, but he's undoubtedly at the very top of the division.

definitely elite, no shame in struggling against guys like Melendez and Thomson who, hey!, happen to be top fighters too.

benson is without a doubt a top 5 155. his last couple of fights don't do him justice

WTF is this shiz with a z? So having competitive fights with Edgar, Gil, and Thompson means you're not elite? Losing to Pettis is now a mark of shame? That ranks up there among the most asinine things posted tonight...and tonight has been a doozey.

Is it possible that LW is one of the most closely contested divisions in MMA, full of tough and well-rounded contenders?

Honestly I could care less about him. His championship run was one controversial decision after another, and every time he fights we have to read 69547886 threads on how the other guy won the fight.

Im glad Pettis took his strap, the dude never deserved that belt. Other than his Diaz defense, the guy did not have one fight where he came off like the better fighter. No idea how he has fans.

He's skilled enough that he had close fights with the elite fighters. Therefore, he is elite as well. If he wasn't, he would've been smoked in those fights.

he was the champ and defended the belt 3 times

elite lw?

You must feel the same way about Edgar.

Razor close wins with elite level guys?

Makes you elite no?

Former Champion a few months ago... wins, but according to TS he's not elite, he's a fuggin can, overrated, send him to Bellator, WMMA contender etc, etc.... brutally retarded thread.

How much of a thin margin of separation is it then?

Wouldn't Near the top = Elite

What the fuck do you consider elite?
