Is it possible for McGregor to put on muscle for 170 and improve cardio as well?

It should be. But bulking up should be done right. It's like Conor took a page put of BJ Penns book. Just not the page about winning at a higher weight class.

Yah it's possible. But will McGregor's style of fighting allow it is the question.

It looked to me he was just fighting at his regular weight while being in shape. BJ somehow managed to put on purely fat.

It's tough to add quality size in a short period of time. Adding 5-10 lbs in a year can be quite a lot depending on the starting point. And how that positively or adversely affects a fighter's style is completely unknown. I don't think bulking is a wise decision for Conor based on his overall frame and fighting strengths. He's really built to compete at a much lower weight class than 170. Conor is only an inch taller than Hector Lombard, and look at the difference in their frames. And of course their respective strengths in style.

yup..

might take about 2 years, with changes in his training

he would be a small WW with diminished KO power

Part of improving his cardio is just going to be keeping cool and fighting smarter. Conor openly admitted he panicked against Nate, and that his tactics had not been too clever.

Now he knows that unlike, say, Anderson Silva, Conor's division-crossing power is a myth, Conor won't lean on it so hard that it depletes him. He has the technique and timing to fight longer while still landing more than his opponent does, so should still be able to find ways to win over more rounds as long as he can keep his cool.

The real question may be how much better Nate's defensive and offensive striking will be from the get go with a proper camp to tune up his timing, range and rhythm, rather than going in against Conor cold and needing a round to find his groove.

If he trains with Vegeta and Trunks, no. He'll also sacrifice speed. So in order to do it right, he needs to do it with Gokunand Gohan. He can also work on his pose downs while conversing.

What is this myth of "improving cardio"? Has any fighter ever gone from having sub-par endurance to having great endurance?

Conor started visibly slowing towards the end of rd1 and faded badly in rd 2. I accept that part of it was not having enough time to get used to the extra weight + fighting too aggressively but really, people shouldn't be expecting miracles from a guy who couldn't even last 2 rounds...

His best weapon is his reach advantage, and he loses that if he goes to 170. It doesn't matter what he does, he's never going to outstrike Wonderboy or stop Maia/Hendricks taking him down

Conor loses to every top 10 170. Just shut the fuck up, he just went up and got finished. You wanna see your boy get hurt again?

Imagine Maia vs Conor

Putting on muscle is the last thing you should do if you want to improve cardio.
