Is it just me or is and was Anderson Silva always bad at boxing in the pocket?

He was one of the best snipers in the game. But his technique in his hooks and boxing in general drops drastically when in the pocket. Has anyone else noticed this through out his career?

You aren't wrong. He is a strict out fighter. A lot of boxing outfighters aren't even good in the pocket. His defense there is still above average in MMA. He wants to be all the way in (the clinch) or all the way on the outside.

He has a really good right hook but that just isn't his range. It doesn't fit his build.

This was his inside game..

I wonder if this came across Bisping mind that Silva was playing with him the entire fight or was not taking it seriously. Would that cheapen his win or him think otherwise? I agree Bisping won but do you think he ponders if Silva was not playing around throughout the fight, would he have finished me quicker?

In all honestly I think Bisping would die of laughter at the idea.

You should have made this thread some time before his 40th birthday.

This is just delusional thinking.

Don't let them fool you, he could have improved his boxing despite his body type.

He just found success in a different area.

He was in the pocket repeatedly with TRT Belfort and came out none the worse for it.

Me and my friends watching Silva vs Bisping realized immediately that Andy looked old and slow. It was sad. You can't really compare that to his prime performances.

Guys rarely got close enough. If they did he'd Thai clinch. Pocket boxing was never really his style. He fucked Henderson up pretty good at that range though. Hard to compare it to now to really know what would have happened if he had to rely on it more in his earlier days.

vs a school teacher turned fighter
Franklin was champ at the time. Do you somehow get more tough points for being uneducated and trashy, cause he kicked the shit out of Leben too, and most of his fights before that were against unemployed people?

The pocket is certainly not Anderson's strength but one of the best punches he landed 2 days ago was an uppercut in the 4th that wobbled Bisping, but he usually clinches or pushes away to attack.
