Is it illegal for cops to shoot unarmed suspects?

not too many suspects toting EFP's or utilizing VBIED's either

It's illegal to shoot a suspect illegally. That's it.

When you attacks cop and they shoot you it's your problem. If a cop shoots someone running away in the back then they will be tried for murder.

We see this happening all the time.

Oh look, another anti cop circle jerk thread. We need more of these.

The real problem is that folks will start screaming such things as,

"He shot an unarmed kid!", or

"He was trying to surrender/turn his life around/spread the word of Jesus - and the police just shot him down like a dog!"

well before any sort of police investigation can really begin.

Non-witnesses, such as Mike Brown's friend Dorian Johnson, get on CNN and probably think they aren't doing any harm - but they are really fucking things up.

Depends on the context. Shooting a fleeing, unarmed suspect should be illegal in most cases, and it looks like police that get caught in those situations are at least being investigated.

You're right. The only time firing upon a fleeing suspect is if he presents imminent risk of death or bodily harm to somebody else.

The police have done, generally, a good job investigating and charging police involved in inappropriate shootings. The court of public opinion has negatively influenced these sort of things, allowing the majority to come to a conclusion without all of the evidence and without an investigation being done. And the media doesn't help.
