im gonna say yes because of these reasons alone, youngest hw champ at the age of 19, was trained by cus damato greatest trainer that has ever lived and turned mike into a machine. would have beat buster douglas and holyfield had he not fired kevin rooney, hardest puncher that has ever lived, nobody could match his aggressive style punching power, quickness or head movement. discuss

Tyson was indeed exciting, but that doesn't put him anywhere near GOAT status.

    Put him up against:

    Foreman
    Ali
    Frazier
    Louis
    Norton
    Liston
    et. al

    and he doesn't come close.

In his prime he was a force to be renowned with. But greatness is measured by overall accomplishment. In that respect Tyson failed to be regarded as even Top 5 Greatest of all time in my book.

You can't really deny Cus Damato's technical knowledge. Hell, even Ali asked him for adviced prior to his fight with Foreman. He was a very respected trainer.

Anyways, back on topic, I love Tyson to death. But, in all honesty, he's in the lower part of the Top 10 HWs of all time (around number 9 or 10). The number one boxer of all time is generally considered to be Sugar Ray Robinson (if we're talkin p4p) or Joe Louis / Muhammad Ali (if we're talkin just HWs).

Buster Matthis Sr. Cus worked a ton of extra weight off of him and made him into a real contender.

Tyson is a story about what might have been.. since he failed to reach his potential, he is not even close to being the greatest fighter ever..
