Is it even possible to get rid of guns in the US?

I suppose it's possible, but highly unlikely. Even if they tried, we will get guns and rounds into this country illegally. We love action flicks, and our guns. We will not stop wishing to protect ourselves as individuals, and groups of people. It would take a lot of time, and resources.

I can see the headline now: The War on Guns.

But no, it ain't happening.

If there is an attempt to disarm the American public a war will break out. If it happens, I hope it does before I'm too old to fight back.

The crowd on this site is much different from others and there are many people who would take up arms if it does happen. I suspect the amount of foreign members on here want everyone to be as powerless as they would be if the government started pushing their shit in. Fuck that.

Let's say for the sake of the discussion then, that you were living in the richest country in the history of the world yet that wealth was hardly reflected in the general public.

How would gun ownership change any of that?

Australia now has more guns than before than gun buyback. And this is a country that doesn't have a gun culture

I hate how the left side of the political spectrum has been by default considered anti-gun and the right side by default is pro-gun. Why can't I be considered a liberal and be pro-guns and vice versa?

Strange that you would quote me when giving this response. I didn't say anything about anyone being on the right or left. I just thought the idea of anti-gun people winning their argument with guns was funny.

why the fuck you would be against guns

socialist?

I'm not attacking you. Just an observation after reading your post.

He didn't really imply what you think he did. No one thinks all democrats are anti gun or that all republicans support gun ownership.

Personally, i think it should just be harder to get a gun, call me crazy. Even in the military w/ all the training we received there were numerous cats, quite frankly, i didn't trust handling their firearm. Alot of people are just ...dumb, and absolutely shouldn't have unfettered access to a lethal weapon.

I'm sure i'm not describing any of the gun lovers here, but surely you all know people like that.

edit: for the record, i feel the exact same way about driver's license and the right to operate a vehicle, which is also a lethal object quite often unfortunately. I see people driving every single day, multiple times per day, that i'm like 'how the f did this can get a license?" stricter and more often testing is fine w/ me, i'll deal with that to get these inept people off the roads.

Dumb people deserve to defend themselves as well.

I agree with you on the wealth distribution. Gun ownership won't change much until the people are driven to exercise their rights. It will be terrible if it comes to that imo.

Dumb people deserve to defend themselves as well.

all i'm saying the firearms handling training part needs to be more extensive, i'm not saying their should be an IQ limit or anything haha

also, it ever actually came to it, civilians would stand absolutely zero chance. Even the worthless national guard could roll in w/ like a lone stryker and fuck whole cities up, cmon now. The police would take huge casualties, but once the military is involved, it's a wrap.

Like I said - it was just an observation I had after reading his post. I didn't say or think he implied anything.

Of course not everyone thinks that way. But most do seem to depending on their political alignment.

They didn't even need armor to disarm people during Katrina.

Besides the entire premise being complete bullshit, i never understood the overrunning of Ft Benning in TWD, especially now that Ft Benning is the IN and AR Corps homes, and marines training tank tactics there as well.....

6 assholes and a kid can hold a whole prison, but tens of thousands of trained battled hardened veterans can't hold one of the most badass american military bases? right.....

For the sake of discussion, has this been done successfully in any other country? So there's atleast a comparable example?

It was supposedly somewhat successful in Australia after their wave of mass shootings.

I wouldn't mind a national gun buyback option. I'm sure a lot of poorer folks might turn in their handguns if you pay above market for it.

There are an estimated 400,000,000 guns in the U.S. We literally have a 100 year supply of guns even if they are outright banned. That doesn't account for all the additional millions of guns that will be brought in by the Mexican drug cartels to sell alongside their other products since there will be good money to be made.

That also doesn't account for the reality that American criminals have known how to make zip guns for a long time now, plus 3D printers that are coming along now. Add in the gun culture and the Constitution and what you have is insurmountable problem.

Have to start somewhere. Start confiscating more. Stop selling so many. It's not a quick fix but something needs to change. I'm all for constitutional rights, I would like to keep at least one of my guns but I don't need a collection and I don't need an automatic rifle or anything like that and neither does anyone else.
