Convincing evidence has yet to be presented for the case of overpopulation. What's usually presented are anecdotes about overcrowding in urban areas. The problem is that 90% of the Earths human population tries to live on about 3% of the Earths landmass (L.A., Tokyo, London, New York City, etc).

I believe it's morally wrong to have any children never mind lots of them. Just by our mere presence on the planet we have negative impact on the other beings that share the planet with us. The more our population expands the more suffering we create. Furthermore life itself IS SUFFERING. I bring a new life into existence I bring it into a life of inevitable suffering. Depending on the environment the suffering may be more or less but suffering nonetheless. I wouldn't wish to bring a child into this hellish existence and perpetuate the endless cycle of suffering and death.

This mindset disappeared from western culture, but its still prevalent in middle eastern people. Also in China, where any additional children beyond what the state allows is heavily fined and taxed. So having multiple kids there is like showing off a fleet of Bugattis.

I've often thought that it is, but not necessarily because of world resources.

In a modern industrialized economy, id wager the vast majority of people cannot effectively support more than 3 kids. Each additional one that you have strains not only your financial resources, but your resources of time. no one could argue that you can take care of 4 kids as effectively as you can one.

Most resources are consumed by the West despite being a minority of the world's population. In the US massive amounts of food and water are wasted unnecessarily. If we could develop a more sustainable model of consumption it could be done.
