All i think is that i just saw the two best lhws in a classic war of attrition. Such a close technical fight that couldve gone 48-47 either way.

His TDD was better than I thought

Knew he would take it to Jones on the feet

MMA is dynamic not static, so I will say both and neither

Little bit of both I think.

If Jon was this unbeatable God like everyone (including myself) was thinking, how could Gus fight near even terms with him?

Did Gus look like an unbeatable God leading up to this fight?

    WTF?

So either Jon is not an unbeatable God, Gus is definitely a really good fighter, or Jon had an off night, or Gus may just happen to have his number (style wise). Just one of those things.

I mean don't forget, Jon did have a broken toe!

This, people were saying if Jones wanted to stand with him he would have the striking necessary to dominate Gus standing but I knew that if Jon couldn't take him down and his reach wasn't a factor, then he was in trouble which he was.

I was flabbergasted why Jones wasnt punching Gus..

Jones was just using elbows to strike Gus' head/face.. but no punches?! That confused me

Gus's feet movement was amazing, and Jones looked a bit flat-footed..

Jones is 'overrated' because people thought he would obliterate Gus in less than a minute. Still a great fighter.

That said, well, it was a hell of a fight and Jones got the nod because he was champ. If Gus was defending champ, he'd have got the nod. If it was a regular 5 rounder, again Gus would have gotten the nod.

Jones' skill was overrated and his heart underrated.

Gustafsson showed incredible wrestling, no one could've expected that in all honesty. While the betting lines were disgusting and representative of MMA-fan's obsession with elevating black fighters to god-like levels, I don't think many thought Gus would fight evenly with Jones in all areas.

So it's more of Gustafsson looking really, really good than Jones looking "bad". If anything, this was the best Jones's striking looked. He also showed an epic chin, great cardio, and tons of heart.

This fight brings both stocks up, though the myth of "JONES HELLBOWS RD 1" can die now like "SPIDER MATRIX RD 1" did after Weidman KTFO Anderson

    Both.

But I didn't realize that Jones has no power at all on his hands. He didn't land punches. Even when he got that chance on 4th round. He had a minute to knock Gus out and tried everything, but a punch. Weird!

Bit of both for me. Jones looked baffled for much of the fight. Sluggish, tentative and vulnerable.

And Gus surprised the hell out of me. He just kept bringing it and made the impossible look possible.

Outstanding fight overall and I can't wait for the rematch.

Gus' TDD was way better than I thought. I knew he was a better boxer but I thought that wouldn't matter at all. Machida is a better striker than Jones too and we saw how that went.

Neither. It was pretty much what I expected from both of them.

I think Shogun did better against Gus than Bones did.

IDK what it was, but Bones just didn't look the same.

I might be wrong, I'll give a rewatch at some point, but it didn't have that "clown on the guy via complete outclass" feel.

Jon wasn't throwing his crazy crap.

because i knew Alex had had the better hands and jones the better leg kicks.
Obviously learning from Phil Davis and Jimmy Lidberg has improved his wrestling a lot.

I'm still in shock from the first round when Jones couldn't take Gus down... then Gus took him down.

That was as crazy as when Chael Sonnen knocked Silva down with a punch in the first round of their first fight.

Did you see the thread for the Papy Abedi weigh in? How about the hype for Lombard, Overeem, Uriah hall, etc... And the insults grown at anyone saying Anderson could lose to Weidman. How about the brigade of people saying "Jones hellbows rd 1" leading up to the Gus fight.

This is a repeating trend that is only affecting a certain demographic of fighters. I'm not being racist by acknowledging that this site is pretty ridiculous in how get hype certain guys.
