best win: shogun past his prime (UD), nearly 40 years old teixeira
-0 punching power
- 7 fights in 6 years
- lost to phil davis in 1st round

He is going to have that defining moment the same way Chael does.

His biggest claim to fame is being the guy to ALMOST beat Jon Jones.

Just like Chael's claim to fame is being the guy to ALMOST beat Anderson Silva.

Possibly. He is the closest man to have ever beaten Jon Jones however.

Renan Barao?

A few years ago Dana was selling him as the potential GOAT

Gus is a top fighter who hasn't beaten the very best in his division, but is usually competitive against them and beats the rest. Part of it is timing. Jones got to fight the old guard: Rampage, Shogun, Lyoto, Rashad and Vitor. Gus would've been favored against all of those, yet he got Davis, Manuwa, Thiago, Glover, Rumble, Jones and DC instead, with Shogun being the only guy of those he got.

He nearly beat Jones, but its kind of weakened by Jones beating the fuck out of him in the rematch

He was so inactive and the division was so thoroughly wrecked that we’ll never know how good he was at his peak, because it fees like his peak has passed

but neither hardcores nor casuals think Gus was all that great. Tons of idiot casuals think Conman is GOAT when in reality he got massive push at 145, dodged Frankie. Then maybe Alvarez took dive after he went 1-1 against gatekeeper level LW.
Again wrong. Hate him all you want the man beat some good fighters. Gus? No not really.

Ronda followed closely by McGregor. Both great fighters, just no where near as good as they each think they are.

Most overrated fighter ever, possibly second to Mark Munoz and Ronda.

To be fair, Uncle Chael almost beat Jones too by doctor stoppage (toe injury).
