It was a much more gritty performance. Although he did get wheeled around but there was more to him than the occasional frothing at the mouth. Can't say the same for Eddie.

The Oscars are so politically motivated.
As soon as I saw the trailer for this movie last year, I knew he was going to win the oscar.
Just like when I heard Leto was playing a TS, i didn't even need to see a preview to know he was going to win.
These are just roles that the Academy wants to win regardless of performance. You just know ahead of time, they're going to win, deserved or undeserved.

It was poor man's simple jack imo.
2000s. Eddie was pretty crap but he wasn't Cuba Gooding Jr, Gwyneth Paltrow, Roberto Benigni level crap. Not too far behind though.
