I mean, is he really that dumb? Twice he landed illegal shit on Dustin that cost him the fight. Eddie has been fighting long enough to have enough discipline to follow the rules.

I’ll admit I haven’t seen Alvarez’s whole career but I have seen a good number of his fights, my only question is. Is this new behaviour? I don’t recall him being excessive with the fouls before.

Used the fence-grab to stay up and push poirier while defending the guillotine, preventing dustin from sinking it in completely and using more leverage; then later when alvarez was on top, he kept grabbing the fence to maintain his posture while trying to ground and pound. The guy is a filthy piece of crap.

Never liked the guy, particularly his snooze-fests vs pettis and melendez, but didn’t think ill of him until those cheap shots he threw against poirier in their first fight: multiple knees to a clearly downed opponent, just the move of a fighter with no regards for the rules or respect for his opponent.

The first 2 were legal, one hand down wasn't a downed opponent per new rules that were in effect.
The 3rd was illegal. He basically had the fight won so throwing it on purpose wasn't necessary.
The elbow was something Mark Henry showed him to throw, there is a vid out there. And he followed the coach's advice.

The dirty moves were fish hooking the ear and grabbing the fence.
I think it's just his instincts, his nickname is the Underground King. He's probably been fighting since childhood and under so many rules that in a hard fight like that the brain shuts down and the instincts take over

when you know your about to be mcgregorred again your mind enters fight or flight mode and you do whatever you can to get the hell out of there.

first porrier fight was after mcgregor made eddie into a video game fatality highlight.

porrier was beating his ass and as soon as eddie realized he was gonna get highlighted again he found a way out.

second fight eddie was getting picked apart on the feet and when he realized it was only a matter of time before dustin got back up and would haydukin him again so eddie tried to get out of the fight again.

He gets by being able to absorb punishment, not fight IQ. He's a meathead.
