Growing up in the late 90's and 2000's there was always Rock and Roll around, often playing on Much and MTV, usually in some pop punk/hardcore/emo tunes, but I don't think it had the kind of impact on the youth as one would've hoped.
You had droves of emo kids walking around, you didn't have too many straight up regular kids who were into rock and roll and the ones who were into guitar oriented music generally were more into Metal, which is underground mostly and never can be mainstream, but it goes on strong.
Anyway, It seems like we have a small but fresh crop of mainstream artists that have emerged and some of the old guard from the 2000's like QOTSA releasing solid material too.
Greta Van Fleet seem to be grabbing everyone's attention, Ghost have some kind of fan base, certainly with the Metal fans, they reminded me of Sabbath a bit the moment I heard them.
Another band that I've been listening to lately is The Struts.
