Is Cody the biggest downgrade of a fighter ever?

Dude isn't up there in age like Woodley, he hasn't been in wars like Tony, during his prime he simply became shit after his lost to TJ.

It wasn't a case of his chin got cracked, his footwork, his head movement, his grappling even his stamina regressed, dude went from looking like the greatest BW ever to looking like a fringe top 15.
He is constantly fighting the fact he wants to put his hands down and swing for the fences. It makes him hesitant once he starts taking hits.

He is overrated because his win against Dominik "butterfly body" cruz people give him too much credit

Or maybe Cruz overrated and Cody was never that good.

Who did he beat to get the TS? That Mizugaki dude that was 1-2 coming into that fight with one of the loses being a KO to pillowfisted Cruz.

Other than Cruz... what is Cody best win? The corpse of Assucao?
Let's not go there. Cruz was very good and Cody beat him in impressive fashion.

(Then got exposed by Dillashaw ofc.)

Woodley went from reigning WW champion, to losing three fights in a row in the UFC, to dropping a decision to Jake Paul, to being knocked out brutally by Jake Paul, in under three years.

Lots of other guys had big downfalls in MMA, but Woodley's was the fastest and loudest, I think.

So much talent but so many holes in his coverage and he doesn't improve he keeps doing exactly the same thing bizarre

Team Alpha Male put everything into his training to beat the one guy they weren't able to for years in Cruz, once that was done his training wasn't as translatable and he fell back on bad habits. It's not that he only trained to fight one guy, but that seemed to be too much of their focus and you can't repeat that performance when other fighters don't fight like that one opponent. After Benavidez it was Faber, then TJ (who even mimicked Cruz' style to a degree), then finally Cody who lucked out a bit on fighting a more broken down Cruz.
He's had some good wins and in the fights with TJ knocked TJ down, but a gameplan for one opponent will not usually translate to the next, and he's remembered for one specific gameplan and performance.

i was surprised to see he's just 33. Fedor also kinda comes to mind. Dood fell off hard by like 31

His rise to fame was the Cruz fight. That was a good stylistic match up. Cruz has questionable head movement and striking distance while Cody had those basics down and was not thrown off by the chaotic movement.
Imo, if Cruz had a bit more power, Cody would have lost that fight too.
That cut and his foot problems also played a part in the loss, imo.

He might be the best example of a talented fighter ruined by low fight IQ. His two knockout losses to TJ was in part due to retardation and the Munhoz loss was DEFINITELY due to retardation. That knockout streak ended his prime and his chin.

After he got chinned by Dilly he lost a lot of reaction time. Also he looks like the type of guy that does alot of partying and drugs. Wasn't he on a lot of pain killers for spinal injury as well. Fighters should never take pain killers for injury, permantly bleaches out your reaction speed.

he's up there, but there are others that were worse. barao, BJ, maynard.

It's the same guy. The sport just evolved but he stayed the same.
This is crazy to say lol he has a ton of fight mileage lol he went out there and went to war and he's paying the price for it now.

I don't think he got exposed by shit lol he fought TJ with the same style and success he was clipping him early in the first fight. TJ was just juicy as fuck, absorbed it all and came back and got him in a firefight. I hardly think its a sign that Cody sucked or didn't belong. He easily could have won that fight it was a coin flip. He clearly was an elite 135r for that period of time.
