I've never heard of this movie other than very famous filmmakers talk about it and it seems EXTREMELY highly regarded by them like Quentin Tarantino and such calling it the greatest movie ever made. I don't even know what it's about

I never seen it but I actually stayed at Chuking mansions when I had a 14 hour layover in HK. It was like 20 bucks to nap in a closet.

If you like arty atmospheric romance dramas then yes, if you want a slightly arty crime thriller I'd say your better off with earlier Wong Kar Wai like As Tears Go By.

Tarantino also believed these two films were the greatest ever made.

Haven't seen either one
Apparently no one has ever seen the greatest films ever made.

Really though those Rolling Thunder releases covered a lot of ground. FIlms like Chunking Express and Sonatine are not culty pulp cinema like the above, there well regarded well beyond Tartantino.

I think its quite easy to see why he likes the former given its extensive use of existing pop music.

It's a brilliant movie. Its director has a spectacular resume in general, made a few classics including Chungking (my favourite of his)

Wong Kar Wai is a great Director
