Both BJJ fighters that developed their standup. 2 of the best finishers in MMA. Brian to me just seems better everywhere besides wrestling.

Of common opponents both lost to Max but Brian arguably won the 3rd round and had Max hurt at one point despite taking a beating himself. Charles quit.

Brian was also the first to finish Frankie whiles Charles mostly got worked and nearly finished. Obviously Charles is a better fighter than he used to be but is he really better than Brian?

He has better wrestling for sure but I think Brian is better everywhere else including BJJ and striking.

Charles didn't quit vs Holloway he had some wierd esophagus tear or something. Ortega was just a punching bag for 4 rounds but he landed a few shots here and there.

Why do sherbro's always try to tear down fighters after they do something good? Stop trying to take credit away from Olivera the day after he wins the belt. Last time i checked Olivera is a champ and Ortega is not.....Both are great fighters and i love watching them fight in the octagon.

Charles is a vacant champ. He's not the best LW in the world for beating Michael Chandler who wasn't even the reigning Bellator LW champ when he signed to the UFC.

Ortega isn't that good, his record is very deceiving. Apart from the KZ fight, you can tell he's so flawed but he just finishes guys before he's about to lose a decision

"Of common opponents both lost to Max but"

Ortega received one of the worst beatings in recent history from Max, recently, while Oliviera has been stellar for 4-5 years now.
They're both good fighters, but Oliviera has fought more (frequently) better competition recently and is champ.

I dont feel comfortable answering this. Ortega looked really good, and then Max just put it on him. Then we didn't see him for a while. And then he came back and looked better than ever. I need to see him fight again soon before I answer that.

    Fighters evolve.

Oliveira is a completely different style of fighter. He’s long, lanky, rangey, extremely versatile with many dangerous tools on the feet. He’s also incredibly dangerous on the ground and capable of doing things that others who don’t possess his body type cannot. Particularly off his back.

    apples and oranges.

Discrediting the skill set of Chandler is ridiculous. He’s been a upper echelon fighter ever since he went life and death with a prime Eddie Alvarez twice. Beating him means something, regardless of whether he has many UFC wins or not.

Ortega has the Dana White privilege.
He got humiliated by Holloway. He cried for almost 2 years. He won against Zombie and gets an immediate title fight.

This is such a silly thread

"is this guy even better than someone in another division?"

    How is that relevant?
