I hear people complain all the time about socialism. And then I got to thinking, is there something inherently wrong with socialism that would not work in America. Opinions aside, is there something in the constitution that socialism would violate? I hadn't really thought of this before. I can see it from both sides but are they just differences of opinion?

Also, I know it's been a while, is there really no more Off-Topic section? Most of my PSN friends are from there. I never see them online anymore. Am I the only 37 year old gamer with a 5 day old son?

God bless and cheers.

P. S. In the end, we all die.

All I know is a great rifle company is from your town.

Btw this thread would be suited for the war room.

Americans seem to hate 'isms.'
Whenever someone says how great the NHS or Medicare[australia] is, they'll come out with an ism.

Are you unaware that socialism is the devil?

What is the company? I just moved here. From Northern California, to Gilbert, Arizona, to Grants Pass, Oregon. Very nice here. Extremely white. White people everywhere. Mostly Caucasians. Literally over 90% white people. At a church service with 200+ people, I did not see a single person of color. Might I add, it was the least pleasant group of people I've ever met. Not a single person said a word to me. Makes me wonder what THEY believe. This is probably to controversial for here. Keep it light. 😘

Yes, I am. Capitalism is based on greed. Socialism is based on making sure people have enough. Like communism......lol

I am on a roll tonight. I'm going to try to move this thread. I need to move to war room.

Primary constitutional issue is whether the state has the necessary powers. Under modern, prevailing interpretations of the constitution, they probably do, even if it gets a little ragged in places.

To make matters more interesting, even if the federal government doesn't have the constitutional power to do so, the states almost certainly do. (with the fed gov't providing a sort of floor).

People thought FDR was turning our country Red, but in reality small doses of socialism can work hand in hand with a capitalist economy. Right now we are starting to witness some negative effects of the experiment of capitalism . Something needs to be done about the ever shrinking middle class; and if it takes a few more small doses of socialism to help fix things then I'm all for it. This is why I'm on the Bernie Sanders hype train.

Franklin D. Roosevelt helped make this country great for the little people. Then Reagan came in and started the creation of an oligarchy. If things stay like they are, eventually we will reach another Great Depression. Then maybe the people will be motivated enough to demand true change.

I agree with you but it will be more difficult to do because of all the money in politics these days. If you don't support the wishes of billionaires then you will have a hard time making it in politics.

Then you have extreme right wing views being spouted out on news media and talk radio everyday. They claim they are for middle class working Americans but more and more the wealth gap grows.

We just need small changes nothing crazy or drastic. It will be hard to get these ideas out though.

Yeah, I was being sarcastic. It's funny how socialism is such a bad word down there.

Capitalism is what made America strong. Not Crony Capitalism where the government favors certain industries, companies, etc... but Free Market Capitalism. In fact, on the immigration test it asks what is the economic model of the United States. The answer is "Capitalism".

Socialism is far far far inferior if you want to have a larger middle class, a higher standard of living, and progress in technology.

There's nothing unconstitutional about socialism. And besides, we're not really socialist in the strict sense, the government owns very little if any actual companies. What we are is increasingly redistributionist, but that's different. Personally I think it's better, the government isn't going to be very good at running businesses, much better to let the businesses run more or less as they please and then tax the profits than try to run the businesses directly.

The reason many American's hate "socialism" is because our arch-enemies, the failed USSR, had the word socialist in their name (Union of Soviet Socialist Republics). For many it is a form of blind hatred without actually knowing what socialism is... but since the Soviets had it in their name, any form of it must be pure evil.
