Is being a “double champ” actually feasible?

Dont get me wrong, winning titles in 2 weight classes is an awesome accomplishment, but will it ever be possible to have a simultaneous 2 weight champ who defends both belts?

I dont think so, as it would hold up one or both divisions and apart from someone like Cowboy, most fighters arent active or healthy enough to defend a belt in 2 weight classes

if has to be a guy that can fight 4 times a year. literally no champ do that nowadays, maybe they never did. unless people want to be content with one title defense in each division each year

Nope, it is not, and everyone knew so - including Dana when he wouldn't let Aldo move up and fight Pettis @ 155 while allowing him to keep his featherweight belt.

Unfortunately, a small Irish man came along and changed the entire complexion of the game.

Frankie could have if he defeated Aldo.

Frankie doesn't looks like he cuts weight at LW at all.

Yeah I don't think it could ever last for very long, if someone attempted it. Imagine the mental pressure of having to regularly fight the top KILLERS in two different divisions. Not to mention the physical strain of fighting 4 times a year and constant body weight fluctuations. It's not really feasible.

Frankie only moved down to FW in the first place because he lost twice in a row to Benson

No...it really isn't.

The weight alone will tax ya but to defend those belts and be active in 1 year enough? No.

It's a dumb move for Dana and the UFC to even have allowed it.

i would say no

but maybe a good athlete in 2 would divisions could do its for a short time

like 125 lbs -135

or 205-265

the other divisions are too stacked to fight either undersized constantly or too dehydrated

I think DC could do it. LHW and HW are both hurting for contenders.

Well we sure know Conor can't accomplish that. He held 2 belts in 2 division, but to say he did so simultaneously is a lie as he never defended a belt. He was an inactive champ who got stripped and it was all a marketing ploy to sell more tickets.

I'm sure Cerrone could do it, and that Comier will do it if he becomes HW champ.

Remember the good old days when Conner fans were trying to convince us that Dana should gift him a LW title shot because Conner would fight 4x a year therefore defending each title 2x a year?

It's not very likely with current weight classes but if they added additional weight classes, yes.

LHW + HW would be doable, probably even MW + LHW, but as has been previously stated there aren't any champs that fight often enough for it to really work.

You could keep it up doing 3 a year imo, but not for more than a few years. 3 titles fights in two years seems fairly normal for the UFC. Oh, and never, ever get injured.

If a champion were to all but clean out their first division before moving up, like say Mighty Mouse. He could probably fight 2 or 3 times at BW before a serious challenger emerged at FLW again.

Theoretically we would want 2 title defenses per year.

But right now we would settle for less, in some divisions. There's a shortage of contenders at LHW and Flyweight.
