At this juncture, the re-match does not make any sense. They fought at welterweight in a non-title fight. What is the relevance?
From UFC'c point of view, Conor's credibility suffered so it would make sense he avenged his loss and then they could say the loss was a fluke cause he fought outside of his weight class. The win would get him back on track for a mega money fight with RDA. The big question is if a short notice 5th ranked lihgtweight in the world chokes him out, what would he do to him with a full camp and how does another loss entitle Conor to fight RDA? Would the UFC risk the loss of marketability and potential consequent mega fights?
And of course the Lawler fright is just out of the question even if Conor was to win. Lawler walks around at 200 pounds and would kill Conor.
The point is that by making the Diaz 2 fight UFC has put themselves in a position where Conor can not afford to lose and there is no way that Conor beats a full camp Nate Diaz on the up and up. He can't KO him, he can't submit him and he can't outsrike him volume vise and he doesn't have the cardio to go with him past 4 rounds. So what else is there to justify this fight and make sure Conor prevails?
