I'm gonna say no.

He beat a shot Roy (after losing to him the first time). I thought their 3rd fight was kinda embarrassing tbh with Tarver getting hurt multiple times by Roy's corpse.

I think it was Emannuel Steward who commented that he saw Tarver as mentally weak.

and then the Hopkins thing happened where he got kinda humiliated.

Dawson whooped him twice

some good wins in there though. Obviously beat Roy. Beat Montell Griffin. Beat Glen Johnson after losing to him. Beat Eric Harding after losing to him. Beat Reggie Johnson. Stopped Danny Green, Jonathan Banks and beat Clinton Woods

watcha think

For some reason I thought he already was. I would say no, very one dimensional (IMO), and weak resume, outside of RJJ.

I bet he will get in tho, if only for his Rocky Movie role

the hall never seemed to be about how good a fighter actually was but how much of an impact they seemed to make. Tarver ended the invincibility of someone who some see as the greatest fighter ever. Personally, I think he was about the same level of fighter that roy was routinely spanking a few years before, a good, competent pro but not especially good.

He’s in a grey area. These guys can get in in a weak year.

It really depends on who else is on the ballot.

It's the Hall of Fame I guess, and not the Hall of Objective Accomplishments. Being the first guy to legitimately beat Roy is a pretty big deal, even given the context.

Yes I think he'll get in I but I don't think he's worth it.

I could see him ending up in the hall of fame. I don't know if he would be a first ballot, but guys like him. Eventually get in there.

I’ll say No.

How many times this guy pissed hot?

Does he give prime RJJ problems? Was he just a bad matchup for Jones?

I consider him to be a borderline HOFer. There are some BWAA members that consider him a HOFer that also voted for him like Lyle Fitzsimmons. I don't agree with some of the rest of his ballot but that's neither here nor there.

My voting criteria, while admittedly not as scientific as some colleagues, is simple.

Was the fighter among the best in his peer group for a prolonged stretch of time? Not a one-year star or a popular guy who got TV time solely due to persona or style, but was he one of those guys – for at least a handful of years – who simply had to be on a short list of the best fighters in the world?

If the answer is yes – think Mayweather and Pacquiao – he’s got my vote.

If the answer is no – think Butterbean and Kardashian – he’s got my apologies.

So, with that, gentlemen… start your vitriol.
