Anyone else with this guy's track record would be despised among fans, but for whatever reason Anderson Silva, despite his myriad professional sins, is still the knight in shining armor of the UFC fan crowd. - Guy cheats or takes cheap shots in several fights: grabs opponent's shorts in Silva-Sonnen II, knees Bisping in the face while Bisping tried to get his mouthpiece... - Busted for PED use with good evidence he's been using a long time. When this came out about Sonnen, everyone jumped all over the guy, but Silva was still a hero. - Shows all kinds of unsportsmanship in his fights: see his Maia fight, Weidman I, Bonnar, Vitor, etc. But no one seems to think this diminishes him. As I say, anyone else with these antics would be despised and in fact have been. My theory is that Silva is something of a mythical figure that many MMA fans don't want to let go of. For all the Sherdog folks who despise Christians for clinging to their concept of God, many of them seem to be doing the same with their MMA god.
