Is Gane, Poirier, Gaethje, Condit has been champ at some point in their career for you?

Do you consider an interim belt as a real champion belt?

Yes or no, explain, discuss

By the way, if they made the interim belt in silver and not in gold, it would be so good and accurate, but the ufc didnt see that

Yes, they are a champion. When they create an interim title, it is because the reigning champ is not able to fight. So they are (in theory) the best active fighter at the time. The rest is just paper work.

Yes, it's a legitimate title.

Part of being champion is defending your title. It's not the interim champion's fault that a fight with the champion couldn't happen.

The fighters that compete for an interim title did their job and showed up when it mattered. They deserve to be considered champion.

I’d say it’s on a case-by-case basis, but generally no. I understand that it’s necessary sometimes due to a fighter being out for an extended period of time, but it’s also used as a PR trick to make a fight seem more important than it actually is.

I don’t consider guys like Colby, Poirier, Gaethje, Gane, etc real champions because they couldn’t beat the actual champion and clearly weren’t the best fighters in the division at the time.

It used to be. It can be a legitimate title when it’s warranted—like Nog’s Interim belt, or Barao’s. When the UFC spams interim title matches for the fuck of it, they become pretty worthless. This interim title fight tonight is a good example of an unnecessary, worthless interim belt.

Obviously not. There's a reason they're "interim champs" and not champs.

"The INTERIM CHAMP OF THE WOOOORLD!!!!" - lol, that's ridiculous.

Definitely not

neither Emmett or Yair are champion material if we’re being honest

No,for obvious reasons that dont need to be explained.

If the champion leaves the division, i'll accept them because you just need to move forward. But so long as Alex has the belt, and hasn't confirmed any stay at 155 yet then no.

Nope, interim doesn't mean crap.

If a champ leaves/retires someone needs to clean out the division to be considered champ--until that happens, there is no champ.

I even have a hard time considering guys who didn't properly come up the ranks champ, alex for example... it's ridiculous to have a champ who, for all we know, couldn't beat the majority of the top 10.

What about Colby vs Dos Anjos being made an interim title match two months before Woodley fought Till?

It's a promotional tool to give PPV's a hint of importance

I don't recall all the circumstances around that but yes, it is part promotional tool, but in that case, there's plenty to nitpick as UFC isn't really run like an actual sport.

I kind of consider it like a silver medal. Not a true #1 belt. There are many suspicious ones that are created too.
