I wouldn't be surprised, but I would also expect them to conduct an exercise like this in an unpopulated area so it doesn't lead to fear and speculation.

If there is some type of sea based mothership as part of a test would need to be done along a us coast. Coasts are typically highly populated. If it’s something they don’t want there it wouldn’t be there long.

Apparently Iran got the tech from China. I'm not sure I'm buying it though, the drones have been reported to be flying over New Jersey this past week. There is been no explanation as to what they are or where they came from, but are said to be the size of cars. Maybe it's just guerrilla advertising for Elon's new flying cars, your guess is as good as mine.

The DoD Press Secretary has addressed this and says that they are NOT Iranian drones, but also not US military drones. My guess now is that it is the Jetsons.
