"Last Monday the Court of Arbitration for Sport overturned a blanket suspension that had been placed on Iran by the International Judo Federation (per New York Times). The IJF had banned Iran from international competition after a pattern of Iranian athletes doing whatever was necessary to avoid facing athletes from Israel.

The original ban was handed down in 2019 after Iranian judoka Saeid Mollaei revealed that team officials told him to intentionally lose at during the semi-finals of the World Championships in order to avoid a match-up with Israeli Sagi Muki."

So Iran can keep fixing matches, cheat and still being allowed to compete?

That's crazy.. There's more countries with issues, but never seen this before. For example, Armenia and Azerbaijan have been in a state of war for the last +25 years, but they compete against each other in wrestling, judo, boxing, kickboxing, mma etc. Athletes losing on purpose early just to not be matched up (and potentially lose face) against an athlete from a specific country, that's just sad..

How good is Israel’s judo team?

Based Iran. Isr*el isn't a real country, it's a settler colonialist apartheid illegal occupation.

At least Israel can compete.

Israel doesn't allow the Palestinians anything.

What does that have to do with this? There's plenty of conflicts and injustice between people worldwide.

This is about a country forcing its athletes to avoid another country's athletes, and, going so far that they have to lose on purpose just to not be in a situation that might potentially make them lose face. That just feels more cowardly than facing someone and losing.

That Saeid Mollaei guy, he now comes out for Mongolia instead of Iran to be able to compete. He's trying to win medals for another country, because Iran is so scared of losing face against Israel. That's sad.. Both for the athletes unable to represent their country and for Iran itself, as it's missing the opportunity to win more Olympic medals.

Don't mind them, this is the usual agenda of pro-Palestine snowflakes. They think justice can be served by cancellation and hatred, while being clueless what justice is in that case.

Palestinians can do literally whatever they want. Just like Israeli in Israel.

Ah sorry...they cannot...because they're being ruled by terrorists Hamas.
Oh well...their democratic choice

I bet anyone from the ME is considered to be a terrorist to a racist POS like you.

Nutandyahoo and American politicians have committed more criminal atrocities than any other country in the world.

ICC is coming for that a$$

Ahh this thread should go well.

I wonder how long before the anti Semitic comments come rolling in...

Not even a helwani thread this time.

Imagine hating each other so much you can't compete against each other in sport

Yee backwards coonts!

Hamas are terrorists for all intents and purposes, they commit terroristic acts against civilians in neighbor Israeli cities that want just to live their lives.
They hide behind civilian facilities in Gaza and don't care if they bomb Arabs (plenty of ) that live, work and vote in Israel.
They oppress their own citizen and get their humanitarian help to make rockets.

You're a clueless, brainless, and most probably uneducated butthurt virgin.

Everyone should have the option to not compete against whomever they have a problem with.

I don't see how intentionally losing affects anyone else adversely.

I’m still trying to make sense of this law... Anyone?

How good is Israel’s judo team?

I am going to guess pretty damn good considering every able-bodied adult has various levels of martial training (due to the compulsory military service).

There is this thing called sportsmanship.
Even in MMA, commissions ban fighters who admit to throw the fight.

It destroys the spirit of competition. You draw who you randomly draw, and compete to the best of your ability.
