Hello to all. I've always received excellent information from this forum, so I decided to join the party. I have 2 formal years of boxing training which includes lots of sparring and 1 official amateur fight.

I just have a real basic training question. Does anyone use the size gloves they would be using in competition on the mitts to get used to them? I've noticed watching some clips of some pros training that they don't always appear to have 16 ounce gloves on (I can't tell for sure) while hitting the mitts. My trainer has always insisted that we always do everything with 16 ounce gloves, (obviously we would always spar with 16's unless at a light weight) , that way we feel even faster when we put on the 12 ounce gloves. I know this isn't an earth shattering question, but I'm just curious to see if there is an advantage to getting used to lighter gloves before a fight. For some reason, my timing felt a little off or different in my fight. Thanks in advance for the feedback!

I did use the search function but found nothing on this specific question, but apologize if I missed a thread on this!

I switch it up. For the most part, I use 12's for mitt and bag work, and then use the 16's for sparring.
