Interim belts are like guaranteed title shots.
You win them you get a shot at the champ and beat him to win the real one(Conor,Werdum) or if he can't do it(defend)then you take the real belt(Barao).

What? Interim Belts are legit. They're legit Interim Belts. They're Interim Belts because the Champion who holds the Belt is unable to compete.

But unless the Champion is stripped for whatever reason, the Interim Champion is not considered the real Champion until they defeat whoever holds the Championship Belt. Phew.
