I posted this question in a guys MMA fight video, but i figured id get more responses out here..

I want to participate in MMA so fucking bad. But I am from the province of Ontario where it isn't sanctioned and all the events are at least a good 5+ hours drive from here. Plus on top of that I am a bit nervous of the crowds. I am not afraid to fight at all, but I am one of those people that kind of care what people think, and take it to heart. I got stage fright kind of bad I guess. Even in judo tournaments I get a bit of it, and it affects my performance. What can you tell me about how the events are like? amateur low level pro? I know you can enter professional MMA with 0 experience if they like what they see. what are the people and crowds usually like? How the atmosphere is? the level of competition? medical? how much they pay to win? Is it really worth it? Its something that been in my head since I was about 16..its been 5 years since then and I still haven't competed. I have done alot of MMA sparring, and fair well, but I just can't seem to motivate myself and hype myself up, to take a chance and get out of my comfort zone. For those of you that have competed in lower level MMA or witnessed it. Can you give me any imput? Negative and Positive? Thanks.

Do you actually train at an MMA school? That;s step one. I drove 500miles to my first fight, you can too. Quit making excuses and actually do what you want to achieve.

Ask a mod if they can move it to the ask fighter forum. I remember a couple of years ago there werent very many people going to the fights but now the same places are packed.

No. Im part of a judo club and boxing club. I MMA spar guys that are fans, and also train in grappling and striking. But I get no pro instruction from an MMA school.

lol Its hard not to procrastinate.

About the crowd jitters? Is it down to losing or losing badly? I mean IF that is the case an MMA fight as you know you have alot more on the line. Go for your goal. If it's on your mind it's better to go for it than never try. Allow me to say congrats on doing something. Some people blow away traditional (although extremely effective) combat sports such as boxing & judo because it's not Vale Tudo. That'll at least give you a solid base.

sounds like you're doing alright.

crowds are just. .. . crowds. If you're listening to the crowd, you're not focusing on the other fighter. The only people in the ring should be you, the other guy, the ref, and your trainer. Everyone else doesn't exist.

It all depends on which org your gonna fight for. I mean some orgs want you to do it for free, and others your gonna have to negotiate. I mean the pay can vary if its an org that will pay you might see like $100-$300 when your just starting out, and just about every place is supposed to have atleast decent medical care for the fighters.

Fighting isn't for me but I've considered it and looked into it, I used to grapple and strike alot. For me I have to hate someone to want to beat them up. I found what I'm truely passionate about and I made the move to playing music. If your truely passionate about fighting, and you want it, stop making excuses and just go do it.

The only experience I've had with a large audience, is playing in a band in front of 350 people. Its natural to get nervous, and to tense up and thats a good thing. What you want to do for anything is make sure your prepared as much as you can be, and just go out there like there isn't anybody there and start kicking some ass.

Just close your eyes take in a deep breath and believe in yourself, because if you don't believe in yourself than nobody is going to, and you will get a beating. Just go out and do your best, who cares what anybody else thinks? Their not the ones who have the balls to go out and fight. If you get koed, or submitted, you get it, it happends to the best of em, just make sure you learn from your first fight and continue to learn.
