So last night after drilling and learning a couple techniques it comes time to roll, so guy i was going to pair with had to leave. at this point it means i have to roll with my instructor, which i don't mind since i roll with him at least once a week, and have NEVER subbed him, nor do i expect to either...

We start Rolling and i'm on the bottom for about 87% of the round, and i got subbed only 3 times, basically i just tried to sweep, or if he was in my guard i tried to at least have one foot on his hip. when he was on full mount i tried to keep my elbows close to my ribs and i tried to control his hands every time i felt he was going for something at one point he had my back as i was facing down, but he was high up so i got my knees close to my chest and escaped through the back door and had his back which he immediately swept me and landed on side mount. at the end of the roll he said "You're really annoying from the bottom, jeeesus(and no, that's not my name)".

the rest of the night i rolled with 3 other guys and tapped all of them at least twice from the bottom, so i don't know, i'm just confused as to what my instructor meant.
I don't know if he meant it in a good way or a bad way, i didn't have time to ask him after class what it was that he meant, 'cause i had to run back to work.

That's an oddly specific number

well i hope he did mean it in the way you guys are saying....

and figured 87% as i was on top for about 40 seconds total of the 7 minutes. i clock watch(bad habit i think)

Yup, it sounds like a compliment. A purple belt once told me I was becoming a real pain in the ass on the mat, and I was on Cloud 9 all day :)

Like everyone says, it's a compliment. You're doing a good job man, keep it up! Try to get as annoying as possible, lol :P For real, your instructor is telling you you're doing good.

Sounds like a good thing, keep it up.

well that makes me feel a lot better, honestly on the drive to work yesterday and on the drive home that's all i had in my mind i was asking myself "What did i do wrong?" which is something i ask myself all the time if i get subbed or if i fuck up in life in general.

so i fell better. thanks guys, and i'll still ask my instructor next session just to make sure, lol.

for some reason i was a wrestler throughout highschool, got rookie of the year, got mvp 2 seasons and was the captain of the wrestling team. but i seriously DON'T mind being on my back, as opposed to what a lot of people say that usually wrestlers feel very uncomfortable when put on their backs

Yeah well thats awesome for you, you will be more well rounded.

It was a compliment and you know it. I'm clapping my hands sarcastically at how awesome you don't realise you are.

You know sometimes I just don't know about this whole "Internet" thing

Wrestlers are notorious for being a huge pain in the ass for grapplers...

I think he meant your guard was feeling good. He was just making a joke. I rolled with both of my black belt instructors last week at open mat and both told me my guard felt real strong. One of them passed after a few minutes but I stayed alive. The other tapped me twice. I actually feel like I forget everything when I roll with them and do nothing right. So it was good to hear that they thought I did something well.

Yes, it was a compliment, but you seem to be a little focused on winning and telling people about your accomplishments. Nobody wins in the gym, and it's not cool to brag about how many people you tapped, or how the upper belts had trouble tapping you (at least from your perspective).

He was talking to the Mexican guy beside you. Sorry. Your guard's alright, I guess. But that Jeeesus guy, he's taking shit to the next level.
