The logic behind the UFC policy of instant rematches has nothing to do with long standing champions, or controversial decisions. It's driven by one thing and one thing only to protect or help big draw champions retain or retain the title.
Examples:
1)BJ Penn as a champion is a bigger draw than Frankie Edgar, who is mild mannered and criticized for not finishing gets the instant rematches and starts the trend.
2)UFC needs a "Mexican" champion to penetrate the Latin American market, so he gets instant rematch even though he was dominated.
3) Silva is a draw due to the UFC GOAT marketing and and obnoxious antics, gets the instant rematch even after getting unambiguously and decisively beaten.
4) Rousey is a cash cow with more obnoxious antics and UFC GOAT marketing BS, gets instant rematch even after being completely outclassed.

The only exception to this rule is s Frankie Edgar getting a rematch against Bendo. Which I'm sure happened because that bald headed scumbag felt obliged after giving Penn a second chance.

On the other hand a true sportsman and MMA great like Aldo gets shafted even though the fight didn't show very much except that d-bag antics can provoke an opponent into making a stupid mistake like wrecklessly charging a dangerous opponent with KO power. And why because? Because Mcgrggor, just like Silva and Rousey play along with marketing and hype, and draw pathetic, twelve year old mind set, comic book reading, metal midgets, hero worshippers, who confuse arrogance with confidence, obnoxious antics with strength. G-d I hate the UFC and 75% of its dwindling audience. They killed MMA, and long time fans are actually going back to boxing. Flame away!

"The logic behind the UFC " is where you lost us...

but if one was to continue reading...I do agree with you, they're is no real legitamcy to the UFC, they simply makes matchups based on who they think will bring in the most money.

It's a very short sighted blueprint -- there is no real rhyme or reason ....their current rankings system is a shit show (Thank you Damian Maia for dropping truth on Rogan's ass last night) The UFC just goes with who's hot at the moment ...which is actually fucking dumb ...sure they since temporary gains...but in the long run they are setting themselves up for failure.

Their Business model is pissing off fighters and fight fans are left scratching their heads when stupid match-ups are made with out regard for the UFC's own rankings system.

I honestly think if the UFC invested in a legit rankings system and followed it.......it would help fighters understand what their fighting for .....(They don't have to have the pressure of trying to be the next Chael Sonnen/McGregor with the WWE B.S gimmicks) just to get a relevant fight. Instead they can simply focus on training and climbing the rankings ladder legit.
