Within 5 days Ronda Rousey has gained over a million subscribers on Instagram.

Just for comparision: Conor McGregor has 966k subscribers on instagram.
Manny Pacquiao 2.6m and FM 7.6m

Rousey without a doubt has the most social media presence of any combat sports athlete besides Floyd.
She has brought the most light to the UFC in the history of the organisation and will probably remain the biggest star the UFC will ever have despite fighting in the by far weakest division the UFC has to offer.

Let that sink in for a moment.

Appearently you do not have to have the best athletes in your Sport to make bank. You simply need a charismatic and polarizing individual who owns the needed skill and a big marketing/hypemachine.

The UFC does not need A-level athletes. In fact they do not even want them.

But she is beyond an A level athlete.

The weak division has nothing to do with the caliber of her as an athlete.

If your point was about McGregor, then I could see it. But Ronda is one of the absolute highest caliber female athletes in the world.

How do you know she is beyond an A level athlete if all of her opponents are L-Level with the exception of D-Level Athletes Miesha Tate and Sara McMann ?

She is a medalled olympian, even not winning it, it means she's a A level athlete.

But Ronda is exactly an A-level athlete.
And Connor, who has a great media presence, too is another great athlete.

Maybe you don't need more than one per weightclass, but your golden boy/girl should walk the walk in addition to talking the talk. And that's where athleticism comes in.

Hence I said you do not need the best athletes. If ronda was fighting other women who are great athletes then she would not look so good(the exception being McMann who could not get past a high school wrestler) and hence would not recieve the media attention she is getting right now.

The UFC doesn't need great fighters to succeed, just average fighters that fans want to bang.

Lol 100,000 instagram followers costs $600

1 million would cost around $5000

Sure she probably gained a ton but using instagram as a metric means nothing when such small amounts can make you appear hugely popular for a couple grand .

I don't know where so many people get the idea that her hype is not deserved. She is a great fighter. Yea compared to Fedor and Jon Jones she's not as good as them, but overall she's an incredible athlete and fighter. Other than that it's been perfect timing for her, casuals love it and UFC is promoting her right. Enjoy the ride, and quit hating.

Oh Em Gee!! Honda is FAMOUS!!!

Let's wait for the PPV numbers to see how famous she is. Calling her the biggest star the UFC has ever had because she has a lot of twat followers on myinstaface is pretty stupid. Do you think she is recognized worldwide by more people than Michelle Obama? She has more IG followers, right? No. The truth is the mass following that is IG/twitter/FB is dominated by broke ass preteens and teens. Cameron Diaz has less followers on IG than girls from that dumb ass teen mom show. Let that sink in, and tell me how important social media followers are........

You can buy that too. I think for 50-100k a year i could get 1,000,000 mostly active followers on Instagram

[IMG] She's a bronze medal Olympian who has been training in sports since 11. And currently the champ in her weight-class and known as the most dominate sportsperson in the world and she also has an ESPN award. But you think she's a B-level athlete or less .... ? Yeah nah.

Ronda looked like a Beginner In
    Her last fight nerves rushed
And off balance she does not
    Spend enough time in the
Octagon to be relaxed in there

Where have I said that she is a bad athlete? Her competition is just utter garbage. And that says a lot considering rondas standup is utter garbage and she knocks her opponents out cold.

    Read what you quoted again.

You can never compare male and female Instagram followers. There are too many people who doesn't care for the person nor even follow the sport who just loves checking out photos of attractive women. There are thousands of people who follows Ronda on instagram that just checks out her pics but doesn't care for her fights.

Conor easily puts more butts in seats and is the biggest draw in PPV. There is a reason why he was the one chosen to do the world tour which the UFC invested the highest amount of dollars in marketing in the history of their business.

However Ronda is also a big draw. The focal point is shes not bigger than Conor.
