Crime Insisting that someone "speak English" could be a hate crime in England

the cop did say that saying speak english could be considered a hate crime, if that doesn't concern you then you are a fucking coward
I'm a coward because I didn't pee my pants about something that didn't happen?

The cop said this in an informal capacity and his comment was that *someone* *could* *possibly* have *percieved* it as a hate crime... This wasn't a judge. Nobody was arrested. It was a hypothetical statement devoid of context.

See? little boy, the monster under your bed is all in your head. It's okay, you'll be fine. One day you'll grow up and be a big strong man who's capable of listening to a 10 second dialogue, understanding what was actually said and not freaking out about things that didn't even happen.

yeah not even close, no rape gangs or 30+ arrests for the wrong opinions a day, no two tier justice system favoring migrants and no collapsing medical system, no uk housing crisis both of which are directly caused by mass migration

No rape gangs or arrests for wrong opinions?

Are you even watching the news?

Your government has declared war on violent gangs and is outright silencing the "wrong opinions" constantly.

What world are you living in lmao

The two tier justice thing was another storm in a teacup non-story, I told you all at the time it wouldn't happen and guess what? It didn't. It got changed once the government realized what was being put forward.

How you can laugh at the UK's medical system I just have no idea. It's bad by our standards, not America's which is the gold standard for being utterly woeful and money-obsessed lmao

30 plus a day ? That was my claim and that isn't happening anywhere on the face of the earth except the UK let that sink in for a second.

As the US should, your government is covering it up in your country. My country (Canada) is silencing the wrong opinions constantly you are correct, and where are they copying most of their policies from ? The UK what you guys put forth seems to come down our end of the pipe a few years later very consistently.

You are a coward yes as well as incapable of basic logic. Why would the cop waste his time investigating whether or not someone said "speak english" if it couldn't be perceived as a hate crime and he said it could ?

The same one as you, everything happening in the UK is coming to Canada you guys are a window into our future and if Canada gets a bad as the UK I am gone.

The two tier justice thing is just as real there as it is here in Canada.

The Canadian medical system is on the verge of collapse for the exact same reasons as the UK. Canadians are dying when they can no longer access care in a timely manner because new Canadians take top priority.

In the US medical system the poor get left behind, in our systems, everyone gets left behind, just not as far back. Quality health care is nearly impossible whether it insane wait times or just being flat out being denied access to treatments.

I get it you Brits are too scared to really criticize your government, these debates are pointless. You guys have to choose between being a coward and denying everything out of fear of repercussions or keeping your mouth shut and head in the sand. You could wake up to the world around you and acknowledge it, but again I get it you are too afraid of your government.

My wife is American and I spend a significant portion of my year in the US.

I am not a Trump supporter. I will be supporting the conservative party in the upcoming Canadian election.

Do you have a source for 30+ arrests for wrong opinions a day? I'm not saying you're wrong but would like some evidence on that.

Their freedom of speech rivals their food

Utter trash

No he didn't, he said it could be considered a hate crime to tell someone to speak English. Which I still disagree with but it's not the same thing as speaking English.
When shit like this happens?

You mean when right-wingers make up shit. In case you need to be reminded, the thread title is "Speaking English could be a hate crime in England".

Was anyone in this story threatened to be arrested for speaking English?

The cop didn't say that at all. If you were actually so dumb as to think that based on the video we have all just watched, then you'd be too dumb to even sign on to sherdog. You're obviously not *quite* that dumb, so quit being a disingenuous drama queen
The cop said telling someone to speak English could be considered a hate crime.

Yes i understand that and that's just batshit crazy. Possibly hurting someone's feelings could be a hate crime. Yes it's impolite but now over there impolite can be a hate crime what the fuck is wrong with you guys. Why in the hell are you standing for shit like this.

A viral video appearing to show a British police officer warning a man that telling somebody to "speak English" could be perceived as a hate crime has sparked outrage among conservatives.

Conservatives have claimed free speech is under attack in the United Kingdom and other European countries, pointing to hate crime laws enacted by some countries. Vice President JD Vance echoed that sentiment during the Munich Security Conference earlier this year when he said the right is "in retreat" across the continent.

While legal scholars view freedom of speech as more extensive in the U.S. than many other countries, some have pushed back on the idea that free speech is being targeted.

The video, which appeared to have originated on TikTok but has been shared by many prominent conservatives, showed the confrontation. Many details of the situation, including what happened before filming, remain unclear.

The video appears to show a police officer discuss the phrase with a man.

"Apparently during some conversations between yourself, you've alleged, we weren't here so I don't know you've said that, you've alleged to say 'speak English,' or words to that effect," the officer said.

The man, along with a woman who was with him, told the officer he was partially deaf and that he was asking somebody to speak "clearly"

The officer then said that if he said to "speak English," that "potentially, someone could perceive that as a hate crime." However, the video ceased recording after that, and it's not clear what followed. Police have not publicly commented on the video.

When reached by Newsweek on Monday, a spokesperson for the Crown Prosecution Service, declined comment, as it is policy not to comment on hypothetical charges, and it is not clear if charges have been filed.

I hope this is some type of joke but I doubt it. Telling someone to speak the native language of the country they are in is now a hate crime. The left truly hates everything about the west.

The sad thing is, this doesn't even surprise me. British police are a fucking joke.

Brits "We can't use our own language, on our own island"

Also Brits "You can't use your own language, on your own island"

Sandy Row protest over Irish language signs at Belfast Grand Central station

I will confidently state I know more Irish people than anyone on here that's not Irish.

Part of my job is picking up foreign language local lingo which helps smooth out interactions.

Irish speak English. They have lessons at school about the traditional language sure. Noone speaks it daily life except an isolated few. Even those will use English in most of their interactions as most people won't understand them otherwise.

Where's the dude that always comes in with the Irish creole posts?

Conas tatu

Lol@calling brown people "colonists" because you may have to live on the same street as them.

Oh noes my children mignt have to actually learn other languages!! Better vote for politicians who will send minorities to gulags for daring to be on my street than have to endure that nonsense!

Yeah, like any UK politician would have the balls to run on that policy.

I know concepts like truths and facts are strangers to the rightwingers, but does anyone actually believe this BS???

LMAO!!

The story/article makes no sense.

Seems like the nonsensical article was written by AI to generate click bait ?
