Is the trick to fighting smarter fighters on the inside actually to be dirty and overly aggressive ??? Think about it.... Examples such a mayweather and maidana... Broner and porter... 2 guys with similar styles both had trouble controlling them fighters on the inside and the tie up because they simply wouldn't accept it. Is this something you should do if someone continuously tries to tie you up/stop the action? I just feel like from watching them fights compared to others of theirs. They had more trouble on the inside. From a technical stand point what do yous think? It seems like when you actually accept the tie ups and wait for the ref it just benefits to the guy grabbing you.

Also I feel like this makes guys more tentative to clinch you

That would be the answer if you're not all that good on the inside. Play dirty as a first resort as opposed to a last. Though FWIW, Broner and Maidana themselves aren't VERY skilfull inside as much so as they are guys who will bang just below the belt-line, on the kidney, behind the head, stick an elbow in your face...you know, be dirty.

OP; are you dealing with inside fighters while sparring? From my experience, it's always helped to simply shell up, a la Ike Quartey or Winky and focus on accurate, short and precise punches. Think sharp left hooks to the body, as it's often a shorter fighter that will try to fight on the inside with you, as opposed to a taller one. Sharp left hooks to the body, short straight rights, and upper cuts. Extract yourself with hard jabs and use your feet to circle or pivot around your opponent. Keep up that shell defense with your arms and hands, now is the time that your opponent, who prefers the inside will try to move forward to hit you. Do not give him an opportunity.
