So unless you've been living under a rock you know that in Boxing the big fight of the Century to happen this year is Oscar De La Hoya, aged and rugged veteran who seems re-newed but has come up short to World Class opponents in his more recent fights, is gearing up to take on Floyd Mayweather Jr., Boxing's skill and savvy phenominon fighting at the highest weight of his career.

Here's a look at Oscar's training Camp for this event:

And here's some pictures for your enjoyment:

Awesome. Thanks for this. I'll be watching this fight and shouting at anyone who so much as breathes too loud. I hope Oscar tools him.

Edit: Damn Oscar is faster than I've seen him in a long time.

Well Oscar's got a lot of intangibles at his advantage going into this:

- Floyd is fighting at his highest weight ever. From Lightweight to Junior Middle, sooner or later a good big man always beats a great little man. And judging by his perfomance against Baldomir, Floyd may have hit his ceiling.

- Floyd has soft hands and normally uses Winning gloves which have thicker padding and STILL his hands break. Oscar got it contracted that he has to use Reyes gloves, with less protection.

- Oscar doesn't look as old and slow in training as he had in some recent fights. He looks in very good shape for 154, and judging by his training he's working on cutting off the ring and imposing powe punches. Which are what he needs to do to win.

But then again, winning is something anyone has yet to technically do against Mayweather (although I think Castillo arguably won their first fight.)

Oh and before anyone makes any snide comments about Diego Sanchez being any kind of reflection of Oscar, remember when I posted that their work was mostly conditioning? A lot of people must have missed the video evidence:

Oscar and Diego share a conditioning Coach, Oscar was never "training" Diego in Boxing.

I agree with you on the weight issue, and I've always thought PBF was pillowfisted. He's fast with good cardio, but Oscar has fought a lot more heavy-handed guys and is used to really catching some hard shots. I think that a lot of Floyd's success in the past has come from being able to dictate the pace of a fight because he wasn't really scared of his opponent's strength. At this weight, he wont be able to walk through the occasional punch (a la Baldomir) and dance around all night. I'm sure Mayorga will tell Floyd not to underestimate Oscar's punching power. I think, since they both have fast hands and good stamina, its going to come down to chin, and I know without a doubt that Pretty Boy doesn't punch like B-Hop.

Well, keep in-mind Oscar also has problems trying to out-box Boxers. That's why he had trouble with Sweet Pea. When he was younger he was succeptible to being lulled into fighting another fighter's game. If he does that against Floyd he might end up looking like Diego Corrales did and getting peck-and-run'ed all night. I don't think he's going to beat Floyd from the outside unless he double and triples-up his jabs and just makes it look like he's out-working Floyd. But Floyd won't let that go on for long. He only let Judah get away with 5 rounds of that. Floyd usually has two or three plans in a fight he can execute and despite his conduct, Roger's a good cornerman and so is Floyd Sr.

Hopefully Oscar's age will actually help him here and he'll fight more maturely. But that's a big question-mark.

Yea, I agree with the point about Oscar. It seems like (you said) his game is going to revolve around cutting off the ring to force a brawl. If it comes to that, Oscar wins, hands down (imo). Floyd's game plan (Baldy, Judah, Gatti) typically revovle around stick and move and a LOT of footwork. If he can make Oscar follow him around (rather than punch and move), Oscar will get outpointed, easy. It'll probably just come down to whoever throws down their gameplan early and makes it work.

Tru dat, no argument here.

I added a clip of Floyd's Camp. But I hate Floyd's clips because most of them are music videos for some reason and there's few sounds I love more than leather gloves hitting leather pads and bags.

But that kid's cardio is BEYOND ridiculous. 15 minute rounds with 4 different partners. Jebus.

I'm guessing PBF by UD. Floyd is looking unstoppable whereas DLH is past his prime and has been VERY inactive. I just wish Floyd would spend some serious time on a makiwara or something, I'd like him a lot more if he didn't break his hand every other fight and end up spending half the rounds running. I do find it interesting that he usually goes very light while on the pads or bag, working on endurance a lot more than power...maybe this has contributed to his fragile hands?

Ever informative, KK. Great thread.

I won't hold out for it, because I don't like my poor heart being broken... but I just might wish upon a star that DLH refuses to dick around and just beats the piss out of him.

Doubtful, light or otherwise that kid's been hitting things and people since he was born basically. Brittle hands are genetics.

i still say oscar wins this, sparring w/mosley is def the ticket; mosley is the quickest/ most exp and athletic person on oscars ledger.

an considering how dynamic mosley looked in his last fight, i think this puts oscar in the right mindset/condition to face pbf; obviously there are diff, w/pbf being the better technician/craftsman. Mosley is the bigger stronger more aggressive opp...he can get oscars respect w/his power and strength an is more durable than pbf; an that is the diff.

PBF does not have the power to get oscars respect and that is gonna hurt his conditioning; he has not had to fight in almost his entire career and when he has he has been hittable, not razor sharp or dynamic.. He is gonna have to fight oscar because he won't be able to pot shot and dance away cus oscar won't be dissuaded by his rather avg power pot shots.. pbf will have to throw hard and alot and continuously to keep oscar off him or to hurt him.

remember oscar never had stamina probs til he started facing opp who can match his ability and boxing; this is the second time for pbf, but the 1st time against a guy who is mentally capable of fighting at a worldclass level.

oscar wins

an who can pbf bring in w/oscars ability/exp and skillset; mosley is similar to pbf, who does floyd have who can give him what oscar will offer.

Am I the only one who was confused when Floyd and his uncle both had their eyes closed while he was hitting pads?

WTF is Boxing?

Boxing is a german word! It consists of two words "bock" and "sing'". "Bock" means a male goat and "sing'" means an istruction to sing. A german he-goat is an aggressive animal that weighs about 2000 lbs, is 2 meters big and has four 30-70 cm long spiral horns. With the instruction "Bock-sing'" (boxing) towards the goat the brave german demonstrated his superiority above the creature and showed his co-vilagers his braveness. The goat usualy did not sing as it was instructed to do, so the brave german had to make it follow his comands by low kicking, elbowing and chocking it. In everyday life the brave german in cases of danger would do "Bock-sing'" to the atacker which wouldn't have any chance against his real Boxing. I'm not german but I'm living here for a long time, and learned from a lot of masters. I already made 17 goats sing as I wanted, because I know the real boxing. "Bock-sing" or Boxing is very deeply bound in german culture as you can see from the emblem from my citties soccer club:

This huge goat wanted to destroy the cologne DOME, but then it was braught to singing from a famous Boxing master Axel Schulz. True story.

Now you know.
