Hey guys i was just wondering what some of the injuries are that you have sustained during a grappling match? I competed in a local tournament in February and my opponent was a strength and conditioning coach at a local college. He attempted to put me in a kimura but instead of bringing my elbow down to my hip, he just relied on his strength and yanked on my arm and it made an extremely loud crack like you just broke a stick in half. I didn't feel it at first because of the adreneline but 2-3 hours later i couldn't hold my arm out straight. Got it x-rayed the next day and found out that my olecranon process ( think tip of your elbow inside the joint itself) was split down the middle. So ive been in a sling for 6 weeks with 4 more to go. So, what are some of the injuries you have experienced?

Broke ****carpals 3,4, and 5 in a Judo tournament, no idea how.

My elbow popped twice the other day when rolling, hurts to move it a bit now and is tender to the touch.

I'm trying to ice it as much as possible and taking ibuprofen alot...

how long do these things typically take to heal up? Atleast enough to roll again...

It kind of just depends on the injury. If you fractured a bone or tore a tendon, your lookin at a month minium. When mine broke, i took ibuprofen for a week or two just to help with the inflamation since it was bleeding into the joint capsule. Have you gone to a walk-in clinic or anything?

Well icing is good to reduce swelling, but you have to heat it up to encourage the healing.

I refused to tap to an americana about a month ago, simply because it wasnt hurting my shoulder, and that led to my elbow getting pulled. That took a week to not be a problem.

I tore a muscle in my lower leg Tuesday while doing take downs.

Now I waddle around with a stupid ass gangsta limp.

Ice and ibuprofin.

My foot got stuck under by body whileI was going down a la Crop Cop vs Gonzaga. I actually felt some popping and tearing

Got rolled over my right foot - explosive move from white belt partner partner during a slow roll - and tore the ligament that keeps the big toe from moving away from the other toes. Six months no healing, MRI, yes torn, surgery, two months out, two months wrestling shoes and now just tons of tape. Guys at my gym make fun of me: "Why don't you just wear ballet shoes?" lol but still hurts. Maybe forever, like when I broke the lumbar vertebrae. But that's another story.

I tore a ligament in my hand and it took me 2 months before I could train again. It was a freak accident where 3 fingers on my hand bent backwards all the way so that it touched my hand.

There was a loud pop and I continued on for about a minute before I called it quits because of the pain. Every time the guy grabbed my hand or I grabbed him it would hurt a lot. My hand was really swollen and bruised for quite a few weeks after and I had to wait a few more for the ligament to heal.

Ive also had my big toe broken on a takedown. The guy did a wrestlers head snap takedown and my big toe got caught in between the mats. couldn't hardly put any pressure on it for a month and its still pretty tender

broke toes on both feet- sprained 3 toes badly when I broke one of them so I have 4 toes injured on one foot at the same time. Bruised some ribs.. but thats really been it

I've had a fair number of tournament matches and no injuries so far (although I've watched a couple happen). I did cause a couple though: broke some ribs on a takedown from my knees in one case, had one guy jump the wrong way during an armbar from turtle.

The most recent was a seperated shoulder at a tournament 2 months ago and at every one i seem to sprain a toe and pull a muscle in my back/rib section .

but before that i tore up my ankle pretty bad at the club and 3 weeks later fought at a tournament .

My friend was competing in a tournament back in october and while attempting to jump over his opponents guard he landed on the guys knee and it ruptured his ACL. Ouch....
