I agree. Indonesia has way too many islands and culture to govern effectively. I'm amazed it's done as well as it has. India is Def a basket case and it too is using up water in inane way. Think new Delhi is going to run out of water soon as well.

Anarchy is a crazy thing. People quasi worshipped the Czar and three years of hardship, they killed him

Word. But it's getting easier to crack down and monitor people now.
Then again Putin has screwed up economically and people are sick of their living standards not rising

Yeah heavy crack downs and foreign proxy powers imbeding their own military to prop up dicktators like Maduro is the game changer in todays society.

Social media can also be used by the ruling class to create probaganda. Social media is double edge sword it can be used to counter MSM "fake news" but it can also be utilized by lord nefarious to spread his ideology of death!

It's really weird. digital media is being used for and against govt. Wonder which side it will end up on in the future?
Maduro is interesting, I can't be sure what he really wants, or what his goals or even his allies are

I wonder how Maduro still has support that large.

Could it be that the people there are just that blindly loyal to him or that the alrernatives to replace him are no better.

The mature thing to do if you mess up one place is to run away and mess up a different place.

It's also one of the fastest-sinking cities on Earth, according to the World Economic Forum, dropping into the Java Sea at an alarming rate due to over-extraction of groundwater.

just to be clear they are doing this to themselves this is not due to climate change

So since the city is sinking fast, shouldn't the value of all those high-rises and land itself be crashing?

They're still building more. True visionaries, I say!

I can't imagine the logistics involved in this operation. The haves will move and the have nots will build a sort of post apocalyptic society in Jakarta I'm betting. No matter what, this will be fascinating to follow and an opportunity to learn lessons on how not to relocate what amounts to a civilization. Crazy stuff.

What makes you think the government is to blame for a massive overexpansion, lack of building control, pollution etc...?

If anything this is a lesson on needing government to control civil engineering and regulate building codes so that random idiot companies don't destroy somewhere and overbuild on bad land.

I feel bad for these people. Indonesia is always getting pummeled with huge earthquakes, tsunamis and volcano eruptions.

What do you think a government's purpose is, if not to govern and provide basic civic needs for its people?
