What is a good amount of fish oils to take at a time. Right now I want 10 grams per day. I'm thinking about splitting it up 5 pills in the morning, 5 at night. Should I split this up even more, like 2 or 4 servings a day?

that's not really 10 g of fish oil per day.you have to look at the dha and epa on the bottle.I take mine 3 capules at a time, usually 3-4 times a day.

Actually that is 10 grams of actual fish oil. 10 grams SHOULD yield 3 grams of combined epa/dha.

TO the threadstarter I would go 3/3/4 or something like that with your solid meals.

Ah,I see.I usually just go buy the DHA & EPA on the bottle.

so you should go by how many grams of fish oil, not epa/dha, you're getting?

No, go by the dha/epa.

I'm sorry...I've read a lot about fish oil. What is the health benefit to adding this supplement to my diet? Thanks so much

Both of you, STFUAHAYC and use the search function. Or click on any one of the billion related threads below.

You're digging the whole STFUAHAYC thing these days aren't ya? :D

I remember reading somewhere that you should mix them up evenly like sonny said, otherwise its a waste (the liver being able to process so much ina given time effectively...I could be talkign crap here though)

Yeah I read up on it a couple of months ago because I was considering taking my entire daily dosage all at once. You can do that if the amount isn't too high (i.e. 3 capsules), but if you're taking over 6 caps a day it's probably best to space it out.

From an older thread there was talk of blood thinning due to FO supplements. I'm taking about 1.9g DHA and 1g of EPA a day and I've started to bruise very badly lately from Muay Thai and Grappling.

My body is new to this training so I'm thinking maybe that's it, but after rolling last night I have very red, blotchy bruises ALL over my bicep and part of my wrist and forearm. Has this happened to anyone else on a FO supplement?

Yes, this has happened to me. Omega-3's have an anti-platelet effect, which is why you might be bruising easily. When I was on 3g of EPA/DHA daily, my body looked black and blue ALL OVER. I had to reduce my dose to 1g before I began looking normal.

I'd recommend titrating down on your dose little by little until your bruising improves.

That's what I figured, thanks man.

I think the 3 gram ceiling is pretty conservative to be safe for everyone. In reality, the amount you can consume without having negative side effects is going to be based on diet, use of other blood thinners such as aspirin, and body weight.

I have consumed anywhere from 4-5grams a day with no issues what so ever.

That actually surprises me with only 3g's. Can I ask how much you weigh and were you taking anything else that could have added to fish oils blood thinning effects? I'm just curious.
