    GREAT movie btw.

So, how about that choke by Joseph Gordon-Levitt ?

My recollection of the details of the choke are a bit fuzzy (this movie will do that to ya), but as I recall, he was wrestling with the bad guy and got chest-to-chest (in zero gravity mind you), at which point Levitt does this: YouTube - Threading the Needle: Arm Bind and Choke

I'd never seen it. Can't imagine it ever working on a resisting opponent. But, to be fair, the choke was performed within a dream, where anything is possible :)
Maybe he even learned it from Ari hehe..

It was pathetic, it looked like crap.

Just another badly done Hollywood choke-out scene.

    They rarely do them well.

    Great movie though.

I'm pretty sure the grappling choreographer for the film was Houston Alexander.

The move works fine. I get that position all the time, and that choke is one of the first things I go for. If I can't tap someone with it, it's usually because they are moving themselves into a position to be armbarred.

I'm pretty sure it's not any worse than the "Chokeout" from Dexter's Season 1

Looks kind of like the "paper cutter" choke with the forearm coming across the neck.

It's a legit choke, I've frequently seen it referred to as the "cobra choke". There is also a gi version where you can substitute a lapel (either his or your own) for the gift wrap.

Don't know if it can be pulled off in a zero-G environment though.

I don't like putting my arm in that position, I once had my elbow injured when the guy cranked my arm to the side

I've tried the choke from s-mount as part of a triple attack but I never get it so I usually switch to arm bar.

I was pretty stoked to see it in the movie anyway though, that movie was easily one of the best of the year. As far as bad chokes in Dexter goes, nothing is worse than John Lithgow's RNC in season 4.

I'm with you, I don't see what is very tough about hitting that choke and have accomplished plenty of times against resisting opponents.
