Hey guys, given some recent discussions on the state of mind and mental aspects you need to be in to and during a fight. Obviously we gotta try and stay relaxed and calm, but also ready to take scalps at the same time. I thought it would be cool if we could all share some pictures that really "capture the moment" so to speak. ill start it off by sharing a few of my favorite.

this was taken of myself before a fight, which was my best performance so far. I might just look like "squinty" here in this picture but this was just before walk out and I really feel it captures the moment. I definitely had "kill mode" turned on. dont know if you can read it on my face or not.

so yeah if anyone else has some pictures they would like to share of themselves that "capture the moment" I thought it would be fun for us all to share, or just any pictures you would like to share, maybe doesnt have to be capture the moment but perhaps just your favorite fight pictures or anything you would like to share.

And this is the most "in the zone" I've ever been, this was when my lady told me she was going into labor with our first Son. They made the mistake of referring to me as a "birthing Coach" ...

No seriously, that sh*t was real.

digging the dude in the first pics chucks and socks lol

birthing coach is pretty good one. I believe you dude, you look most intense in the last picture.

My ex used to say I get autistic before my fights... Don't talk, don't interact much, just gaze into the void. I think that is my zone

My face there is like "pizza or churrasco after the fight?" but actually at this moment my mind is just a vacuum

But I get really expressive hitting people lol

I dont have any pictures but was actually focusing on my mindset during sparring thursday. For me the way Miyamoto Musashi describes it is perfect.

“In the Way of the Martial Arts, do not let your frame of mind be any different from your everyday mind. In both everyday and military events, your mind should not change in the least, but should be broad and straightforward, neither drawn too tight nor allowed to slacken even a little....Do not let your mind stand still even when you are in repose, but do not let it speed up even when you are involved in quick actions. The mind should not be distracted by the body, nor the body distracted by the mind.”

"the zone" from me is becoming a blurred line with reality so to say. its less of a "kill mode" and more of a "this is what im doing now so do it to the fullest." iv had amazing success with this especially when staying calm during exchanges

this moment my mind is just a vacuum

perfect way to be, whatever word you want to use for it, going with the flow, in the zone, accepting things as they come. best way to fight rather than "looking" for something. Just be the empty vacuum and take the shots as they present themself.

nice pics.

good stuff dude, when i was on my last run prior to my forced break, I was wanting to read some of those japanese samurai warrior books, as well as start meditating. I have taken a long break and am slowly getting back into the groove, i think it did me some good, my mind is stronger now and I am more excited than ever to get back in there and fight again. for me "kill mode" isnt being angry, its just a mindset of being willing. This way there is no hesitation. I find my best performances were when i instantly thought and did rather than think, 2nd guess, then go. that split second of hesitation is a split second too late.

Definitely pick up The book of five rings and Taming the drunken monkey those two have had a lasting impact on my martial arts and just life in general, some really good stuff in there.

The quote i was looking for this morning was " The state of mind should remain the same as normal. In ordinary circumstances a well as when practising martial art let there be no change at all." and "Center the mind so there is no imbalance, calmly relax your mind, and savor this moment of ease thoroughly so that the relaxation does not stop it relaxation for even an instant." its written so long ago but if you've felt it then you know exactly what hes talking about

are these books available online? I am interested in it, but not interested enough to buy one lol. Such as the art of war, I have been interested in reading it, but the cliff notes of the whole thing are mostly available online. Plus with all the technology of today, you can most likely watch a video on the subject rather than read it. I looked at some bookes at barnes and noble, and alot of the stuff just seems to be quotes. heres some good stuff from the art of war

I like the quote: avoid what is strong, attack what is weak. this translates to hey, hes a great puncher, well avoid his punches and kick him. or hes a great kicker, avoid his kicks and clinch him, etc etc.

plus, has you ever actually read a book? I is talkin about the WHOLE thing!

Im sure you could find a pdf but especially with taming the drunken monkey youd want to actually read the whole thing. The book of five rings you could find cliff notes for but then again you can take something from everything in that book and its not long at all

You should find the rest pretty easy. I enjoy reading Hagakure, it's an interesting mindset, bit subservient for my liking. I left that lifestyle many years ago, loyalty to a family is one thing but not at the cost of oneself........

too funny dude, i feel i can literally read that thought going through your head at that exact moment in the 2nd picture. first picture is good one, "the walk" for your first is like going through a dark tunnel or something.

Me at the opening bell of one my first sanctioned bouts.

And now as a coach. I picked a few different fights, with a few different boxers, with a variety of success.
