There is an "In Soviet Russia" joke hiding in here somewhere.

Maybe some other promotions could have competition like this in a Dynamite! type event. Throw in some other weapons or even Samurai :-)

it's pretty suprising they aren't broke yet, UFC won a major Rus TV broadcast deal
even w their mafioso connections.

I would watch any of these freak knight battles rather than watching the UFC 125 division and fights between unknown C level fighters.

UFC won a Rus TV deal, so what? The quality of their cards is getting worse and worse. Look at UFC 186, it is an insult to even ask money for that piece of garbage.

When you talk about mafioso connections I hope you do not forget about the Ferttitas.

To be fair, if more companies started hosting sword-wielding combatants on an MMA card, they'd only have to pay one competitor.

Pretty cool, wouldn't watch a whole event of it but seeing one fight mashed between some MMA fights wasn't bad.

I'm assuming there are rules against stabbing someone in those. It was interesting, but I'm a bit confused as to how the scoring works. If the ref restarts the fight on the feet, isn't that basically saying that the guy who was on the bottom was "killed?" So it's like a time limit match where you see who gets the most "kills?"

No I think it's similar rules to mma...if there's no change in movement they stand them up.
 
This is retarded it can't be realistic because for that they would have to use sharp swords and be allowed to do anythingwhich would obviously lead to horrific injuries.

Also standing them up is as unrealistic for such a ruleset as it can be I don't even know how you could win because you aren't allowed to kill anyone but how do you force a stoppage if you can't knock them out because of the armor and can't submit them because of the armor and because you are stood back up.

This doesn't work as a sport and I suspect it's only a matter of time until one ofn the swords goes through a hole in a helmet and pierces through someone's eye.

If anything give them helmet and sticks and let them hit each other full blast without any limitations but this is just retarded and not even really exciting to watch

It's kind of BS, men at arms and knights more often than not wielded lead weighted maces, axes and flails to batter armored opponents to the ground before dispatching them with a dagger to an exposed area. Those butter knives they are using are pathetic. The should just bring back the melee and let a dozen guys in a pen beat the piss out of each other until there was one left and give him a huge purse. Go all the way, this half-hearted crap is a shame.
 
this is hilariously awesome. Its so weird that it makes it a must see event. I wouldnt want to watch this everyday, but once in a blue this is friggin awesome.

They were stood up from side control as one guy was landing GNP multiple times. You'd have to be a terrible ref to stand them up in MMA from that. There must be some other rule in place.
