In Defense on Colby Covington.

May have seemed that way, but only his fans were making posts. 90% of the community was "meh" on him getting cut. Every felt for him, but no one was really "pissed".

You might be right.
I wasn't as fan, but I was definitely not a hater. I don't mind wrestlers doing their thing, same way i don't mind a BJJ master spending the whole fight pinning someone on the ground or a striker keeping the fight up.

Some of those "boring" matches made me sit at the edge of my sofa throughout the fight...

I’d like to think he’s setting himself up for major embarrassment/failure when he gets KTFO but unfortunately nobody GAF about Colby.

First and foremost I do greatly respect the ground game. I'm not a fan of the "grind" style people have labeled "LnP", but you can't blame the fighters for fighting within the rules set up. That being said they aren't gaining any casual fans that way.

I agree some of the best fights were fought almost exclusively on the mat. Whether those fights being a striker vs grappler (Silva vs Sonnen) or an amazing display of offensive ground games (Fedor vs Nog) they were amazing fights.

Call me a "just bleed n00b" if you want, but my favorite fighters and fights are offensive in nature (Striking, GNP or Submission Game).

Secondly, dat AV......

believe me, I completely understand you.
This is (obviously) a personal taste, and I know I am not with the majority for my outlook at a fight.

but I always believed the following: If I put you in a position you don't want to be in, it is up to you (not the ref) to get out of there.
If you can't, then I am imposing my game onto you...

So in that case, grinding or even LnP is still winning because it is the other fighter's job to not allow me to LnP.
get out, try a submission, create space and get out of there. If you cannot, the problem is with you, not the fighter who is on top.

If he wasn't such a racist pile of shit I might feel bad for him. People aren't going to remember him for anything but being try hard heel character. Had he just kept his mouth shut and fought some of us might remember a mediocre WW with solid wrestling. Granted 90% of fans would think he is a boring wrestler who is a good fight to get a drink or take a piss during, but still he would at least have some shred of respect as a Mixed Martial Artist who performed well (albeit not excitingly) in the UFC.

Only thing about his fights people will remember is getting woke up to see what ignorant ass shit he is gonna say in the post fight interview.

As I said though you can't feel bad for someone who is legitimately a racist over privileged pile of shit.

Gotten to.

I agree 100% and respect the skillset required to implement this style, but it isn't fun to watch and I'm not a fan of the fighters that use it. The bottom line is that it is within the rules so they are doing nothing wrong. My only point was that it isn't a style that makes fans (rightfully so) and that Colby would essentially have no fans/attention if it wasn't for is antics and it's almost sad. He dedicated his life to MMA, but isn't skilled enough in the disciplines that make fans so he resorted to being an ignorant, racist, douche nozzle to get attention. I ALMOST feel bad for him, but I don't because he is a racist pile of shit lol.

I hear you!
And yes, it was his choice on how he wants to be known.
It is sad though, that being that bad of a person is what ends up making him succeed (monetary-wise at least) in life.

I know not everyone is a wizard on the ground, but look at Maia. Absolutely atrocious on his feet, no gas tank, but he does have tons of fans (I am one), and mostly for being an amazing person.
Stories from many fighters about Maia only strengthened it.
Machida, same thing.

Well, obviously those two guys are elite fighters, so maybe the fact they are good guys did not play a part for them having fans...

you got a point. A mediocre fighter can only get paid good money if they create a persona that will make people love or hate you....

Brazil isn't a race

lmao what the fuck?

you're from one of the whitest places on earth, and in a post brexit society you're trying to say xenophobia isn't real?

racism, xenophobia, whatever else might not be real to you but you're an ignorant cunt if you don't think it exists in other peoples' realities
LOL

My defense is when he does inevitably lose horribly (again) the circlejerk is going to be funny as hell.

Are you as quick to defend potential recipients of racism as you are to defend potential racists?

If not, you should work on that. A guy that will insult people based entirely on the country they are born in is almost certainly not above insulting people based on the skin tone they were born into. Both are equally shitty.

As expected, nothing.

I just dont understand how you could get triggered so badly by someone you don’t even know.

Not triggered whatsoever. Just a viewpoint on MMA and what sells and what someone like Colby is almost forced to do to even be relevant. He obviously is burning bridges and truly being an ignorant ass hat, but he is relevant for the here and now due 100% to his antics.

Triggered is so fucking overused.

I wouldn’t say 100 percent because of his antics, the dude is 7-1 in the ufc. Most ppl were sure Maia would beat him.

I agree It is kinda ironic that ‘triggered’ is a trigger word these days

Yeah he is a top 10 WW for sure, but you get what I mean.
