Iceland was planning to participate but it fell through, not sure why though. Maybe because of travel expenses.
How does one get selected for team usa...I'm curious considering fights are usually regulated by the states
That'd be so awesome to snag a hotel room near the event and go watch MMA for a week straight. Really looking forward to this tournament.
USA going to bring the freedom!
So this is like... The UN of MMA?
More like the Olympic Games of MMA.
1 week to go.
Except these guys are actually doing something
Rules and summary.
Reading through some of these teams the swedish team sucks so much balls in comparison. They actually had to do two trials because there was so little interest in the first one. It's typical swe attitude, you cross your arms and lean back with a grumpy face until someone else has done the actual grunt work.
Sums up the Red Wings really well.
....jks. I love my Swedes.
If JJ/Gus is in Toronto, I'm rocking my Zetterberg Swedish hockey jersey.
Considering the huge experience and record diffrencies Isuspect we will see some real beatdowns especially considering some countries, eg. Finland basically are sending pros.
So how many fights will you have before you right the finale? If there are too many I suspect the fighters will just use wrestling to grind out decision wins and in that case I think USA wins everything if they send NCAA wrestling guys.
With that said, I'm really looking forward to this. I hope they will have a live stream.
Don't worry about it. It's funny because it's true. :icon_sad: Wish everyone was like Holmstr
Rounds are 3x3 minutes, no leglocks allowed except kneebars, and no up-kicks to the face. The ruleset is going to be the UMMAF ruleset.
It says on their webpage that they're going with the IMMAF rules.
Yes, but they're using the UMMAF ruleset because they thought five minute rounds were too long for amateurs to perform well and some other political BS I don't know.
It doesn't mention no upkicks to head in the PDF but they were illegal at nationals.
Also contestants have to make weight every day of the event from June 30th to July 5th in order to discourage heavy weight cutting.
I'm on the coordination team, thanks to Tuff-N-Uff handing IMMAF the license to put on the show.
Here's some random updates:
*The Romanian team is lost (as of Friday afternoon)
*The Brazilian team had visa issues. No word if they're showing up.
*The Italians hate A/C in cars.
*Fighters will weigh in every day and fight multiple times in the week. The finale is on the same day as the UFC 175 and in the same Venue. Not sure how that's working out.
*The fights will not be streamed, though they may be recorded for later airing.
*The lead-up to the Saturday finale will have two cages running simultaneously.
That's pretty much all I've got for now.

Nice. Thanks a lot for the info.
