That seems like . . . an odd decision. According to the website:

IMDb is the world's most popular and authoritative source for movie, TV and celebrity content. As part of our ongoing effort to continually evaluate and enhance the customer experience on IMDb, we have decided to disable IMDb's message boards on February 20, 2017. This includes the Private Message system. After in-depth discussion and examination, we have concluded that IMDb's message boards are no longer providing a positive, useful experience for the vast majority of our more than 250 million monthly users worldwide. The decision to retire a long-standing feature was made only after careful consideration and was based on data and traffic.

The message boards have long been one of the key features of IMDB for me and, along with Mayberry, they were one of my two go-to spots to discuss films. I've always thought of the site as not just an information source, but also as a community for film fans.

With that said, I'm not 100% surprised. I have noticed a few things lately:
  • traffic seems to be down, as many threads have zero responses or only a small handful of responses
  • trolling has always been an unfortunate regularity
  • way too many people are just too fucking negative on there and just seem to show up to bash the films
So yeah, I dunno, it sucks but I guess the message boards were just too extensive to properly moderate, and without moderation they're kind of shitty.

RIP IMDB Message Boards

Sherdog message boards...

I never cared for their big forums -- but the individual film message boards could contain some nuggets of wisdom. Shame to see them go, really. Especially since those boards are downright ancient. They've been there for so long now. Passage of time is a bitch.

Wasted opportunity.

They needed to address the problem, not eliminate it.

This X 10,000.

The move industry is just about coin now and they cater to foreign markets which dumbs down films.

I don't know if the writers' strike in 2007 has anything to do with all these remakes?

I really disagree with that. I've often had questions about an ambiguous ending, a song name, something that stuck out, and I knew all I had to do was scroll to the bottom of the page and almost certainly someone would have already asked that question and there would be answers. Some movies are older and obscure, it's hard to find websites where people are discussing them at all.

Yeah, I mostly agree. I mean, if you want to find some discussion--any discussion--for a lot of older films then IMDB's board for that film is THE place to go. It's going to be weird not having that resource anymore.

I don't care for the message boards and spoilers there.

What's the alternative movie discussion forum now? RT's boards have fallen apart, reddit isn't a forum as much as it is an echo chamber, joblo is a joke, and what else is there?

That's really unfortunate, because in a lot of cases (IE: horror b-movies from the 1970s/1980s/1990s), iMDB's message boards were the only dedicated resource to find viewer opinions.

Dude, I don't even know. That's what I've been trying to figure out because I need somewhere else to go. If you come up with something you need to give us the heads up.

This exactly. That's what made their message board system so unique. EVERY film had a board dedicated exclusively to it and there's just nothing else like that.

This is sad for me here. It's one of only two boards where my screen name of choice wasn't banned and replaced. I don't hit that up like I do sherdog because I love you people, but I'll miss it dearly.
Apparently they think that we're better off discussing IMDb content on social media, because staying anonymous encourages trolls, but it wasn't that bad over there. ESPN sort of went the same way when they switched over the comment section to FB accounts. I hate both changes. RIP.
@shadow_priest_x deserves more credit for creating the best movie discussions on all of sherdog btw

Well, let me do some looking and ask a few questions and I'll get back to you.

Considering that I don't fuck with social media--no Facebook, no Twitter, none of that shit--it's pretty disappointing to me that so many outlets are wanting people to sign in with those kinds of accounts. I don't want anything to do with that.

I agree that it wasn't "that bad' over there. I mean, there were problems, but not problems so big that they just need to shut their shit down.

Thanks bro, I appreciate that! I like to think that me and @Dragonlordxxxxx hold it down pretty well over here on the film front.
