And successfully cuts weight, is ready, but doesnt get to fill in as both Poirier and McGregor make weight

That would be (2) straight times a fighter was used as a backup, before he actually had his first UFC fight

    That'd be wild

But imagine this far out conspiracy theory - Dana signed Chandler simply to serve as a backup for big LW fights, but never actually fight
And he did this to heavily TROLL Bellator

Or another conspiracy theory is that Chandler is secretly injured, wont fight for a while but wants to stay relevant by serving as the backup for high profile fights?

That would be a great gimmick. Eventually it just becomes a tradition, the ceremonial Chandler weigh-in before every big fight.

    Always ready, never needed.

chandler should have taken the rda fight, i think that honestly would have made the most sense for a debut.

What they need to do is have him locked in as back-up but still have a fight scheduled for him on the same card, with like Paul Felder or somebody. That way if he isn't needed, he still gets exposure as a legit contender. If he is needed, someone from the undercard can step up to fight Felder (they'd be happy for the chance). Whoever gets left solo on the undercard still gets paid and can book a another fight soon as they won't have taken any damage (but no one really cares about them anyways).

That said, it is kind of funny how fights never seem to fall through when there is already a contingency plan in place.

Chandler came into the ufc and became one of the most unlikeable fighters before even getting a contracted fight.

Ufc just needs to match him with Kevin Lee already, despite all his talk about fighting top 5 guys, but not actually being paired with anyone as of yet.. Sure Tony is a fun scrap, but let him get by Fighter Kevin Lee first.

Lmao. As Khabib said, “thank you Michael Chandler, you can go home now, bye”.

I could see this more often for title fights, but i doubt they would make it for other non title fights.

Chandler will increasingly look like a clown if he keeps holding out for only the biggest fights. 155 is turning into a weight class full of insufferable divas.

You could be on to something, TS.

Maybe the UFC is doing it to appeal more to women? They just want to see Iron Mike shirtless and flexing on the scale.

Chandler is a live by the sword, die by the sword fighter. Dude can throw HANDS, but he’s chinny as fuck. The dude will be a great sacrifice to the JBG no matter who he fights in the top 5.

Lol. After every weigh-in, Rogan will say "Thank you very much Mr. Chandler, you may leave now." And then Chandler waves to the crowd and starts prepping for the next cut.

dont get the hate for Chandler, he was essentially in line for a title shot

RDA on short notice for a Fight Night makes no sense

The problem with Chandler is that he think he's better than he is so he will only take a fight with a top 5 guy like Gaethje or Ferguson. He'll look past RDA and Mackachev and not take fights with them.

Imagine if he's the backup, Poirier has to pull out, and Conor immediately leaves town instead of facing the backup. Basically he's just a back up in case Conor gets arrested or injured.

Chandler needs to face a guy in at least the top five. RDA is an in decline, unranked relic of the lightweight division.

Exactly. For whatever reason the UFC has big expectations for this guy. As long as the management is on your side there's no reason to take the risk of fighting guys that provide no career upside if you beat them.
