So i have to get some math credits so i can open up some more opportunities for school. For me mathematics is absolutely daunting. For whatever reason my entire life i was crippled by math. It just didn't make sense to me, seemed almost like a foreign language. I understand that it was in large part my laziness that made me not understand it but i just couldn't understand it, no matter how many tutoring sessions i took or even when i actually tried applying myself it just didn't stick. So i was curious as to what your thoughts are on this subject. Do you think for some people its nearly impossible or they are just being lazy? I want to believe i can be proficient in it but sometimes i just cant believe it.

Basically do you agree with this dude here? Because i totally have been saying "im not a math person" my whole life.

not everyone who is 'bad at math' is lazy.

some are just stupid

Math could be incredibly fun, but the "schooling system" has made it so fucking boring, that most people hate it after addition.

Like Mark Twain said, never let schooling get in the way of your education.

I agree with the premise --- it's not about natural talent, it's about doing your homework.

Every math class in school I got a C in even though I was in advanced classes the whole time bc I never did my homework. The couple classes I actually did the work for, I got A's like every other class.

Just follow Terence Howard's example and create your own math rules. Much easier to understand it when you make your own rules.

No such thing as being bad at math?

He's lyin.

I remember taking the ACT test back in the day. For each section you could score out of some classes by getting higher than 26? I scored one point over in several sections.

But in the math section I score a two!

That's right! 2!

You got a one just for writing you name on the fucking test.

I got great scores in Logic, and some other things but fuck me I'd always screw up the Algebra. I'm forever reversing some shit and fucking it all up.

I'm dyslexic and though I get by hearing things, hearing myself say them even. I found its useless to hear numbers as far as solving equations goes.

I told this to my Chinese Wife who couldn't believe someone could make it as far in life as I had one the level I professed to be in math. Until we started working on some equations together.

She say: 'You, You one dumb Muthafucker!"

Everyone starts at a different place but being good at anything is about earnestness and repetition.

She stole the words out of my mouth ( I didn't watch the video. Just saw the title of the video). I think every person can at least pass Calculus 1 ( which isn't incredibly difficult).

Yea....its a dude talking lol

anyone can be good at math if they stop being lazy, same way anyone can draw or code. its when you try to get above the good level to the great level when you start seeing who has higher competence for it. but most people never even get to the good level at anything because it requires hardwork and its easier to say i cant or wasnt born with the gift.

Lost it at "there is no such thing as a math person". Moron. Is there such thing as a smart person? Nvm

This guy is not "bad at powerlifting", he's just lazy:

This guy is not "bad at long distance running", he's just lazy:

If there are math teachers who are bad at teaching (most of them, imo), then how can there not be students who are inept at learning math from those standard, poorly taught methods?

2 + 2 = Vid being Clickbait

I think the video is directed for the people that make excuses as to why they are bad at something, so there is interest in the topic, but they lack the willpower to go through with it, so they come up with an excuse why they are not good and shouldnt bother with it, making them lazy.

Im pretty sure if the long distance runner wanted to become a power lifter he could do it and he wouldnt make an excuse for it, same goes for that power lifter. no one would ever acuse them of being lazy, they just dont have the interest for it.

I think the method and curriculum used to teach math in America are way less than optimal. That's why a lot of people suck at it. They never develop a solid foundation in arithmetic (a large part of which is just memorizing) and without that more complex math just doesn't click at all.

If we want to create people more competent in math, we can't let them advance until they have each level down pat.

Im kind of torn. I believe it was due to my laziness but for real it was just not getting through to me no matter how many times it was explained. Kinda made me feel like some people are just meant to and some aren't.............but again i was lazy.

Thats what im terrible with! Arithmetic. I cant visualize equations in my head like i can other things.
