Fuji Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Lightweight White Gi - MMAWarehouse.com - MMA Gear, MMA Clothing, MMA Shorts, MMA Gloves, MMA Shirts and more!

I'm starting my BJJ classes next week after falling in love with the trial classes I took this week. But I need to buy a Gi and am a little lost when it comes to that.

I read that the Fuji Gi's were pretty good especially for the money, but I can't decide between the 2 because I don't really know the difference. If I'm a beginner just starting out is there one you would reccomend over the other?

I believe the lightweight shrinks less. You actually JUST missed a $60 fuji on BJJ hq.

At this point, it really isn't going to make much of a difference. The lightweight (it's a pearl weave) is listed as preshrunk, while the single weave is not. They might've just left that out but I would assume not, just to be safe.

Either way, unless you buy big and plan on shrinking it down (washing it in warm water and then putting it in the dryer), always wash cold and hang dry. If you start training frequently (multiple times a week), you'll probably want to get another one down the road so you have one ready to wear while the other one dries.

What size do you guys think I should get if I got the lightweight gi?

I'm like 5'7"-5'8" and weigh about 164-169lbs. So I'm at the higher end of A2 but the lowest end of A3. Should I just get the A2 and be hang dry it so it doesn't shrink, or should I go for the bigger one and hope it shrinks approriatley?

And as far as frequency of use I have class 3 times a week.

I personally would prefer the Fuji lightweight because I like pearl weave. Either one would be fine though really. I think you should get an A2. Make sure to wash in cold water and hang dry. In general, treating all your gis this way will allow them to last longer. I think you can get away with only one gi if you have class three times a week. You just have have to make sure you wash the gi the same day you train to make sure it dries in time by the next class.

just starting out, I'd get an A3. Some people like gis tighter and some baggier but IMO an A2 might be too tight on you. I am 5'8 about 190 and I wear A3 in most companies. Fujis, I think, are slimmer cut.

Also ask them if they have issues with colored gis where you train. From experience blue or black are WAY easier to care for and worth the extra $5-10. I will never buy another white gi again.

Shit, I want to order it right now but I don't know if I should go A2 or A3. :(

I have a Fuji in A3. I am 5'8" and weigh about 190. Fits me nice. Not too big but not too tight either. I guess it depends on your build

be aware fuji is pretty tight around the shoulder/under arm. I still think A2 would be the go for you though. i am 5'11 170 and the A2 is sweet on me, i have worn an A3 also though and i didnt notice much difference. the lightweight and normal one are pretty similar, both are very nice.

A3 for sure. I am 5'8" and 155 pounds. The A3 is legal but it is close on me. Read the fuji size chart it is a little different than typical. I have shrunk the A3 in the dryer a good bit.

Edit: I have the single weave
Get an A3 and keep it away from the dryer.

LOL, poor Klondike. :) You are getting a lot of contradicting answers! I think you'll be fine whatever you get though.

Any chance you can go to a store to try out different ones? With as varying as BJJ gi's are, I don't know how comfortable I'd be buying my first one without trying it on to get the best size.

It won't help much trying a different brand, as even in the same size different brands will fit differently. I found a Lucky A4 (I'm a fat guy) to be too tight in the jacket (the pants were fine), while a Redstar A4 fit nicely (I might've even been able to get away with an A3).

Do you know what kind of an exchange policy they have? That way, if it doesn't fit when you try it on (before you go to class, of course) you can return it and grab the other size.

I have the Fuji kassen which is also a pearl weave..5'11 215lbs..I have the A4..
