I'm in Cambodia ask me anything

What food is nice over there?

Why does my brother always steal my good edibles when he comes over?

I've got a few questions: How do people generally feel about Hun Sen? Are people happy with the direction the direction the country is going? And how do most people feel about Cambodia's recent past history from the Khmer Rouge to the Indochina wars?

Why did you make this thread?

Because I saw the Tonga thread and I haven't posted much in awhile.

What's the meaning of life?
To try and find what "meaning of life" means for each of us.

What food is nice over there?

Best local food I had so far was amok, which is also found in Laos. It's basically fish curry steamed in bananas leaves. It's really nice.

Do you believe in life after love?

Love is everywhere, so yes.

Why does my brother always steal my good edibles when he comes over?

You didn't fill the room with enough uppercuts.

I've been here about 2 weeks and mostly on this secluded island. I don't know who Hun Sen is and I haven't met a local with good enough English to answer such questions. Maybe I can get a better understanding of their political sentiment by the end of my trip. I can say though they do not care for the Chinese though. One of the local staff thought I was Chinese and sighed in relief when she found out I'm Korean.

What kind of work do you do and is it enjoyable?

I'm doing all sorts of shit. I've been fixing wires, transporting supplies with a motorboat, cleaning, cooking, serving drinks, cutting branches etc. It's not part of my job description (not that I really have one) but I've also been trying to talk to guests and make them feel comfortable. I feel like I'm more suitable for that as I can be pretty talkative and welcoming.

You think you can kick my ass?
Unless you're so tall that my foot can't reach your ass, yes.

Funny thing is being in the jungle is giving me predator flashbacks.

How’s the food and the general cleanliness of the island?

Be careful, my dad's best friend got some very nasty STD from fucking cambodian teens, he had to get treatment for it for a year IIRC

Food is good, but I prefer thai food. Other than Amok, I've found Cambodian food a bit blander with less preparation involved. Less variety than Thailand tok.

Koh rong samloem is where I'm at and it's not a densely populated place with much development. That means not much trash. It's a pretty little place with pristine waters and sky. The beaches are also great and at night you can see bioluminescent plankton. I have to stop and watch the sunset every single day because I've never seen them so consistently beautiful since I'm coming from a smog covered city.

I heard Koh Rong, the more popular island, is filthy and is full of either Chinese tourists or young backpackers only interested in partying. Sihanoukville, a place totally conquered by the Chinese, is littered with casinos and trash. Backpackers call it shitville and it's aptly named.

Was I right about the eurochicks?
I don't recall what you said but I've met many gorgeous European women. Some damn fine Colombianas as well.

Had a French guest the other who was incredible.

Thanks for the reply, and yeah Chinese destroy everything everywhere they go, another question, are the people you meet friendly? Or are they weary of tourists/volunteers?

Good for you. I've been there, have no questions. Wasn't my favorite destination, prefer Vietnam or Thailand. Be safe.

I've seen a sharp contrast depending on location. The touristy places are full of very pushy locals. In Siem Reap I couldn't go a block without having at least a couple locals yelling, "Tuk Tuk? Weed? Lady? Where you go?" I felt constantly badgered and harassed to buy something. They also try to trick you into paying more by offering services you didn't ask for. I have to be on my guard all the time. In Sihanoukville some guys were literally grabbing me and smacking me on the arm to use their tuk tuk the moment I got off the bus. I was like fucking chill bro, let me get my bearings first.

But then outside of those areas, nobody seems to give a shit, much less even give me a look. I wouldn't say cambodians are friendly compared to Laotians or Thais but I haven't had much time here to say for sure.

Yeah same here. so far, Laos>Thailand>Cambodia. Although I've been to Hanoi last year, I can't count it yet as I haven't been to Vietnam on this trip yet
